External PLugin subfolders

Post by MkC » Mon Apr 13, 2009 2:27 am

It would be great to be able to organize the external plug ins into sub folders.
Let me explain a bit further,
If I have an eq plug in I can put all the eq plug ins in the same folder, and not have to look up each plugin by manufacturer
Cheers!!

you can do this as much as you would like, at least on a pc

i think some plugins may be picky about their installed locations, but that would be the exception,

From my expereince, this can easily be done via PC..though some plugins may require reinstall to the desired location.

Perhaps on a mac, you can try creating Alias files of the components to a special folder sorted to your liking. Then change the plugin location in Live's preferences to your custom folder. I haven't tried this, but its a harmless test. If it doesn't work, you can delete the shortcuts and revert back to your original folder. I've used this technique for sound banks in Logic and it worked in that respect.

At least on PCs, you can relocate most of the vsts inside the main VST directory wherever you want. But of course the best is to install them directly to the desired location.
And yeah, experiment using backups... Some plugins may not like their new place
