problem with midi clip triggering modul8

Post by boanderson » Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:01 am

I am able to send sync information from ableton to modul8, but I am not able to map a midi note to media in modul8. IAC is enabled and online in audio/midi setup (otherwise the midi sync wouldn't be working). I am able to map a midi note from my trigger finger to a media clip in modul8, but I can't seem to send the same midi note from ableton and have it recognized in the midi map in modul8. I DO see that midi information is being sent in the upper right hand corner of live, but modul8 doesn't recognize it. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem here?

thanks for any help!!

A little more information....

I'm running 10.5.6 on a Macbook pro 2.4 GHz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM. Live is version 7.0.14, Modul8 is version 2.52. here is a screen shot of my IAC settings in live preferences, with the midi channel and clip sending to modul8 as well as the settings for the IAC driver in the audio/midi setup:

Again, modul8 is reacting to messages from trigger finger (the same notes that I'm trying to send from the midi clip in live) as well as to midi sync from live, but no response to the midi clip.

any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

I have figured out a work around - I wasn't letting live run - i was just clicking on the note on the clip or the key to the left of the note, which gives a midi level in the channel as well as indication of sending the note in the upper right hand corner, but it doesn't get to modul8. It was only when I had live playing, the clip looping and then I went into modul8 (which was already in midi map mode) and clicked on the media that I wanted to trigger. then, it mapped the note.

if anyone has a better idea, I'd be happy to hear it.....I've been trying to use my trigger finger to send notes, they C1 comes out as 10/36 as opposed to 1/36 as it comes out from the live midi clip mapping method. I need to have the midi clip trigger modul8, so this doesn't work....I guess the next step is to dig intot he trigger finger and change the extra data that's being sent with the C1 note information that turns it into 10/36.....

You could get MidiPipe for Mac (or possibly MidiYoke for PC) I use Mac and MidiPipe lets you filter a message and change it something else. It takes a bit to get your head around it, but once you got it its easy. So you want to get same info to 2 programs, make a pipe

Midi In
AList - see what Midi signals are triggering
Key Mapper - change the input signal to something else, same port or something I dunno
Midi Out

Then you choose the MidiPipe Output in Live or whatever.
