Best Loop Pedal with Looper

Post by sburke1 » Mon Apr 13, 2009 2:39 pm

I am looking to buy a loop pedal.

In Live 7 I could never achieve low enough latency recording to get smooth looping going. ( I would have to add warp markers on the spot which is not cool) I know this is possible as Kid Beyond does this, but I never seemed to be able to do it. I played with all the settings for hours and hours. Maybe there is a thread that adresses this specifically?

I have a Presonus Firestudio Project with a 2.6 ghz MBP 4ghz of ram. I have heard other interfaces might be have a little better latency like RME of Apogee.

Anyways, I think getting a dedicated loop pedal might be the way to go unless someone has any inisight on how to really eliminate latency.

I see the the boss rc-50 has external sync capabilites. It is pretty expensive though.

My questions are.
1 what is the best loop pedal to work with live in sync?
2 Will I be able to send audio out of the loop pedal into Live after I record some loops, so I can add VST fx on to the audio I recorded? I would love to be able to use abletons fx.

3 I have yet to play with Looper, does this make any change to the latency situation?

Thanks.

I'm using a Firestudio 26x26 with e-drums on a PC and I have no appreciable issues with latency. I realize that's different, but there are obviously people looping with version 7. It might help to post your Live audio settings.

Good Point. I will do so soon when I have a chance to fully test, with the new looper.

After reading alot about the rc-50, it looks like it's biggest downfall is clocking externally. Forget all my latency woes, maybe I should simplify my question and keep it just to what is the best loop pedal to clock to ableton?

if you want a zero setup, no fuss looping solution, get a dedicated looper pedal. Anything they do can be replicated with Live, but nowhere near as fast and easy. If youre trying to play an instrument at the same time as looping, then you want simple more than feature-laden.

If youre just looping live resampling stuff while working a mixer, and you want internal sync with FX etc, then Live is probably a better fit for that.

I will be trying to loop a number of sources and things will probably get hectic. I agree with the fact that I need a loop pedal now, I just would like to get one that can also sync to live because I run a click to my drummers headphones with live. For us to be able to jam while I loop I need the click.....unless I could somehow split the metronome out of the loop pedal.

That doesnt sound fun though. Ideally I would get one that just sync perfect to live so the drummer could keep the same click he has all night. I saw some guy talking about some old lexicon rackmount unit working well. It seems pretty hit or miss for the rc-50 after reading tons of reviews.

i'm currently using the fcb1010 ableton, reason combo. I don't have any real latency issues. i've used hardware loopers(rc50-line6-boomerang) in the past and i find they get out of time more so than ableton. with much less control.

Its encouraging to here ableton is getting it done for you. Did you adjust your driver error compensation to match your interface? Or do you use any track delay?
