Midi Manifesto for making Racks useful presets

Post by Soupsounds » Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:32 am

None of this happened in Abelton 8  so here's a hope that it might happen in 9.

1. Ability to save Midi mappings with Racks and devices.

2. When using the chain selector to select a device chain within a rack the other chains within that rack become automatically deactivated to save CPU (unless you have an overlap within the chain selector).

3. Following from the last point - when you have selected a chain within a rack - the other deactivated chains ignore any midi data sent to them. So if you have say 2 of the same vst instruments with different sounds within the rack mapped to the same midi cc values the parameters of the deactivated one will not be altered if the activated one is tweaked.

4. To have a display mode within the rack - so just the device chain is displayed - Not the chain selector and macros.

5. Following on from the last point - In this mode the Device Chain should change and be displayed when a new chain is selected using one of the macros. Currently the only way of doing this is to have all the other unnecessary stuff (to performance) being displayed.

All of this shouldn't be too hard to implement and would make the Racks a very easy way of create usable and flexible preset system.

Best Regards

1. Do we have to use Racks for this?
2. Preset system for what? Only synthesizer program presets or also pattern selection presets, mute group presets, solo group presets?
