Live 8 - Program freezing up when clicking File Browsers

Hi,

I'm getting a problem where when I click on any of the 3 File Browsers (1,2,3) it takes about 5-20 seconds to show. This time gets longer as the project gets bigger. I dont get the same problem in Live 7, so i'm pretty sure its not my hard drive. During the time, Live sometimes goes all white and says "not responding", but it always seems to recover.

I also get this freezing up if I bring the window of another program (e.g. web broswer) to the foreground, then go back to Live.

The audio plays pretty much without a hitch during the freeze, though sometimes it glitches out.

Its a really annoying workflow glitch. Is anyone else feeling this?

Suggestions appreciated

I'm on Windows Vista. I dont get this problem on my macbook - though i have a tiny fraction of the samples on there, that I do on my desktop.

Hi Hedflux,

- close Live.
- browse to this folder:

user/username/application data/roaming/ableton/cache/

Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is how to make it visible:

1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Organize/Folder and Search Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."

- delete the content of the 'Cache' folder.
- restart Live.

Same problem here. I heard someone saying when you select your folder and add it as root it works faster. Will try both things tonight.

On OS X 10.5 and Ableton 8.

I got it fixed. Basically clear the cache as outlined above, but what really slows it down is if it is loading your whole drive list. So choose a particular folder as your root for each browser, by double clicking it. That should do it
