triggering the "Auto filter" effect with velocity ?

Post by tdwctdwc » Mon May 04, 2009 3:11 pm

Ok, another question for the fellow helpful members of this forum:

Is it possible to trigger the "Auto filter" effect on midi tracks only when i'm playing SPECIFIC midi notes, or when i play with a certain velocity?

Thanks fellas!

pretty sure you can side chain the auto filter, so I think so. Never done it though, so I'm not much help. Also, since it's called an "auto filter", you would think that would be the main objective of it, otherwise it would just be a "filter".

yeah, well the reason i'm asking is because i like to add it on some of the E.piano sounds in LIVE and tweak it a little bit.
some amazing stuff that thing can do to the E.piano sounds in LIVE.
But i wanted to trigger it only to certain midi octaves/notes or to a certain key velocity...

you could add another midi track, assign a channel to the epiano, and then a seperate channel to another instrument with the sound off, as a dummy clip kind of. Then, hmm, I might be on the right track, but I'm not sure where you'd go from there. I'm at work, and can't try the stuff out right now.

page 225 of the Live 8 manual. for instrument racks there are velocity zones, use those.

I think the "auto" aspect has to do with the envelope control, where you can basically create an auto-wah effect that responds to the envelope of the incoming audio.

I mainly want to use those sounds for live gigs.
Actually to be honest, after i compared The E.piano sounds in my Yamaha Motif Synthesizer to Ableton's , i decided to go back to my Motif...
Nothing can be beat the real thing in sound quality, nor do Ableton or any other DAW, even though i'm a huge fan ot Ableton.
There is a reason why the Motif won some awards = sound quality.

Because i don't want to take the chance with midi latency issues in a live gig.
And besides, the MOTIF sounds are much richer and never short from realistic, especially the E.piano sounds, since that's what i mainly use for jazz-fusion stuff...
I decided to use Ableton only for sequencing and production..for now.

I think he was beeing cheeky and asking why use a Motif instead of a real electric piano if the real thing can't be beat in sound quality. :)

ah, i see ...
Well, yeah, i did answer his question i believe.
After all those years, and with all those powerful new daw and the Vsti revolution, i just keep coming back to use the Motif as a sound generator for my music !
Like take today for example: i managed to customize one of its preset drumkits to sound exactly as(if not much better and more realistic than) Ezdrummer's Drumkit From Hell.
I can tweak snares, ride cymbals, choose from a huge selection of snare name brands (Sonor, pearl, ludwig), you name it!
The quality of the samples in this thing is just a huge ocean full of crystal clear realistic sounds...
