avoiding clipping in live

Post by pip56789 » Thu Aug 05, 2004 6:26 pm

Hi,

I'm mixing many different samples in live, all at different levels. Because Live's vu meter sucks (or at least i think it does), I have difficulty knowing how close i am to clipping. I've tried a few methods, none of which work very well.

The first one is compressing everything individually while pumping up the sliders and pray that the mix will be uniformly loud without clipping. I can't tell: are the compressor/effects pre-fade or post-fade? The second thing i tried was to compress the master. as i said before, neither work really well.

Basically i want to get as close as possible to 0 db without clipping, and i'm not sure how to do this. (is there an actual limiter plugin somewhere?) Suggestions would be great!

The "Compressor II" plugin has a limiter preset...select it and then move it to -0.1 db....slap it on the master...and you're good to go...

Kind Regards

On the master channel are switches for sends pre/post. Go to the PSP website and download the free 'Vintage Meters' in your format of choice.

Now you have accurate scientific quality meters which you can control the ballistic and reference settings of. Best to not sound like an ass when seeking assistance as it is hard to help rude people.
