Propellerhead Record

Post by mihai » Mon May 11, 2009 9:04 pm

just watched the video and [like many] i'm not impressed. i do believe it gives hardcore reason users a tool that helps them record in a more-or-less "traditional" reason environment so they don't have to use any other 3rd party software. the interface of it does have that classic reason look [that i think is nice] but it's definitely nothing groundbreaking or incredibly cool.

It just seems like there is nothing at all to get excited about if you don't use Reason exclusively.

Yeah, it's not enough for me to give up Live or Logic. Reason 4 will probably be my last upgrade, then I'll switch over to Live Suite 8 when I can.

But to read the posts on the PH website, it's like they've created audio recording. I guess for exclusive Reason users, being without audio recording for so long was like being in desert or something.

Cons
No VST support
No MIDI out
Dongle needed not for launching the app, but for opening files.
Separate application to Reason, probably will have to pay double for both upgrades.
Still no clip launching or region looping it seems.

Pros
Nice mixer board?
Reason instruments inside Record, if you own Reason (the only VST you can use, hahaha)
Line 6 Pod-like interfaces for guitar and bass.
$149 for existing Reason users

Downside of the Moonshine bust I guess. Seen those guys live a few times back in the day, good stuff.

i honestly think i'd be more excited for reason 5 as opposed to record [but i'm an exclusive live user]. i don't agree to much with the whole interface for dealing with audio but that may be since i'm used to it being all midi in reason.
