How do you create a stop button turntables effect?

Post by Hayz » Fri May 15, 2009 3:50 am

Anyone know how to replicate this sound in Live, where you get a sudden "beeeeewwwww" (sorry poor I know!) like a turntable stopping quickly and the pitch bends down? I want to create this effect for a track I'm working on! Any help much appreciated!

set the clip to re-pitch, automate the tempo slowing down, and resample in a new channel. also, if your on windows try out the free plugin "glitch". i know it has this effect. not sure how precise you can get with it, having only tried it for a few minutes. it's designed to destroy samples "creatively". :)

Hi Maz, I'm on a MAC so would like to try your first method, but wondered if you could explain how I set the clip to 're-pitch'? I understand how to automate the bpm slow down but then I'm lost again when you mention resampling into a new channel! Any chance of an idiots guide from start to finish please?

're-pitch' is one of the clip warping options like 'beat' or 'complex'

on mac try using the supatrigga plugin's "slow" setting, get it free at http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=6

re-sampling is when you create an audio channel and switch it's input to resample. this is found in the in/out section of the mixer. read the manual. search for- audio routing, warp mode, resample/resampling.

Glitch from illinformed.org also has a tape stop set which will give you a fair bit of control over this.
