OT: Breaking wind

Post by brightonalex » Tue May 19, 2009 2:50 pm

I heard the weirdest conversation today in Sports World in London.

An American teenager was at the counter with some gloves, and he asked the assistant – “excuse me, do these gloves break wind?”

The guy said “what?”

And the bloke said “these gloves… do they break wind”.

The assistant just said “no, they are just gloves, you'll be safe with these”.

What does breaking wind mean in the States? Because in England it means doing a fart.

I am not american but I guess a "windbreaker" is something that uses some kind of fabric that stops the air from going through

lol... means the same thing, although it is what a grandma might say. Given the context, he wanted to know if the gloves decreased wind resistance.

Now, if he wanted to know if the gloves emitted flatulence, he'd more likely say "do these gloves fart?", "will these gloves rip one?", "will these gloves cut the cheese?", "will these gloves pass gas?", maybe "will these gloves float an air biscuit?" or "will these gloves play the butt trumpet?", or possibly even "will these gloves tear off a piece of stinkwind?" before he'd use "do these gloves break wind?" to mean the same thing.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

Back in school one of my mates let rip a beauty in the middle of Chemistry, to which the teacher looked across and shouted “That was out of order”… to which my mate replied “Sorry sir, didn’t realize it was your turn” He got a detention for that :(
