When relaunching live: it says Live unexpectedly quit while you were working on a Live Set "Unnamed Live Set" Would you like to recover your work? and when I click yes it automatically crashes again, Im using live 8 on a Macbook pro running 10.5.7

I ran into this exact same situation and unfortunately I just had to start over. Since it was never saved, there is little you can do. But first try to delete the Preferences.cfg file located in users>library>preferences>ableton>Live 8.0.3. It has enabled sets to open in the past for me that would crash on startup.

If you want to come back to it later or wait to hear from Ableton, make a copy of the Undo.cfg file and put it on your desktop or something. That way if you say no to the prompt to restore the set you can always drag that back into the folder destination above and it will ask you again if you would like to restore.

I had this problem last night on a track I had not yet saved for the first time as I couldn't come up with a name for it. I really liked it and couldn't really recreate what I did easily, so I spent this morning diving into it. I got my work back :) Here's how...

I was running on 8.0.1 (I'm a bit of a slacker). I tried all sorts of things like moving Preferences.cfg which caused Live got stop responding indefinitely while using no CPU after recovering the set. I then tried manually editing the Undo.cfg to remove lines from the end of the file. It seems to make sense that this file just gets appended to, so removing it just removes some of the actions. This did cause the set to go back in time a bit so my theory was correct, but it still crashed.

I upgraded to 8.0.4, started up and after waiting for everything to initialize, anxiously copied the Undo.cfg from Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 8.0.1 to Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 8.0.4 and restarted Live. Unfortunately, no prompt for recovery. So, I inspected the first line of the file and sure enough, the first line of Undo.cfg has a version number. My old Undo.cfg from the crash said 8.0.1, thus 8.0.4 ignores it. I fired up vi (any text editor should do though) and changed the 1 to a 4, restarted Ableton, and viola, my track... working perfectly.

I had previously had this same issue occur at a friend's house who I just converted from DP to Live. It wasn't the best first impression that we had to recreate the track because I didn't have an answer. I was starting to have doubts about Live, which I don't really enjoy doing.

Thanks for the bug fix Ableton ;)

if that really works (it sounds logical), then this should be made a sticky!

A similar thing just happened to me....

I'm running Live 7.0.1 ...I was working on a project that was already saved but I went back into the project and after working on it for awhile Live crashed and I had to restart my computer and open Live back up...The 'unexpected, recover your set' message came up. I click it and noticed that all the work I added to it wasnt there! So I saved what was there under a different name.

Is there anyway of recovering the work I added to the project??

I'm literally sick to my stomach over this.

Any help is appreciated!!
