Using Empty Midi Clips to Send Program Change Messages?

Post by houseofmidi » Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:52 am

Hi,

Trying to setup a Live System using sets of Scenes for different Songs. I've got an external Synth connected well and all that and I can play the Synth 'thru' a track using the Midi Monitor.

Now The problem is I want to auto Change the Patch I'm playing when I jump to a new Scene. So i set up an Empty Midi Clip with the Program Change option but It doesn't seem to Send to the Synth.

If I add a note or two to the Clip it will Send the Program Change but I dont' want those random notes playing when I start.

Is there something obvious why the EMPTY clips don' t send Program Changes to the Synth?

Ok I worked out the Problem.

I had the clips on a Track that was set to Midi Monitor 'Iiput'. so that I could play my keyboard 'thru' Ableton to the Synth. But then the Clips on that track don't get sent to Midi out.

So instead I added a new Midi Track which will just be used for PrgChange sends. with the 'Monitor' set to 'Auto'. The PrgChange Track is on the same Midi Channel as my Play Thru Channel.

All works fine.

When I start a scene the PrgChange is sent And I can still Play Thru on the Keyboard.
