How do you edit audio in the sample display/note editor without warping
activated?

I do all audio editing by dragging into the arrangement. Or I use an external editor.
I don't think you can edit in session view.

what is your work flow when editing in arrangement view when dealing
with smaller edits on audio involving zooming in and out and returning
to the original view before editing when you have a lot of tracks?

Not sure exactly what you're asking but...
I will often times create a tracks called "Refuse". I'll drag it to where I want in the arrangement review as "swapping" track to put the cuts and pastes/edits from the track I'm working on. I'll usually use the + and - keys to enlarge and try to use the looping bracket to good effect.
