3.0.4 / 4.0.1 bug: Changing tempo and delete / backspace

Post by robbmasters » Sat Aug 14, 2004 1:01 pm

Summary:
Live executes BPM changes that you didn't ask for when you try to use Delete / Backspace to change the BPM you're typing in. This is a performance killer. Delete and Backspace should work as expected. At the very least they should not trigger a tempo change.

Example:
Suppose you're performing in Live at a tempo of 135 bpm. You want to do a sudden drop to 120 bpm. So you type 120 bpm into the tempo box then hit Return / Enter at the instant you want the change to take place. The tempo change takes place as expected. All well and good.

But suppose that when you start to type the new tempo you accidentally press the "1" key (for the start of "120") twice. Now the box currently displays "11" instead of "12", so you hit Delete / Backspace to remove the second "1". Big mistake! Live instantly jumps to the displayed tempo, 11 BPM in this example, or as close to it as it can get, as detemined by the BPM range you have set. Everything grinds to a halt (well, almost).

Obviously, you have a similar problem if you accidentally type the "0" twice giving 1200 BPM...

Workaround:
If you realise you've made an error when typing in the BPM, press Escape. This will set the tempo in the box back to 135 BPM and you can start again.

Cool.

Fortunately I discovered this before my first Live gig, and not during....

Now, how about that control drag problem...? And VSTi settings problem...?
