I have recently bought Live 8 Suite (I am actually running the latest Beta at the moment), I am generally having no problems with it, apart from 2:
I have recently been making some music using my Dell Studio Laptop (2.53G Dual Core 1066Mhz/4Gb RAM/Vista SP1 32b) without the aid of any of my USB and Firewire peripherals (I have an Akai APC40/Evolution UC33 and an M Audio Oxygen Keyboard).
I spent most of last weekend making a tune using a variety of samples/inhouse instruments (collision) and a variety of 3rd party plugins (FM8/Renegade/Absynth 4).
Using just the onboard soundcard and using my headphones I created a track that at most was nearing the 16% CPU mark.
After lots of playing I decided to link my laptop up to my docking station where all my peripherals sit.
I also have an M-Audio firewire Audiophile box which power my monitors.
After switching the audio to my Audiophile (ASIO), I noticed many clicks and pops which were not audible through the laptops own onboard audio.
I also noticed that the CPU was peaking at over 50% in the same places where my inbuilt audio was at 16%
I systematically disconnected all my peripherals to see whether it made any difference, but it ultimately came down to the M-Audio Audiophile...
Not knowing too much about ASIO, does this seem normal for the CPU reading to dramatically rise like that? How can i remove the audio pops? I have tried all the various settings on my Audiophile and I have the latest drivers installed.
I am positive it is my Audio box that is causing live to react like this, which has lead me to looking at various other audio interfaces (USB 2 and Firewire).
Any suggestions as to whether purchasing a new interface would remove the high CPU output and noise imperfections?? Considering everything is just peachy using Dells own onboard audiocard...
Are there really any real advantages with Firewire or is the general concensus that USB 2 is just fine??
I would also take any reccomendations on Audioboxes too! Although I am looking at the Lexicon Ionix range.
I have had this problem since installing Live 8, but to be honest it is only this weekend that I have narrowed it down to the Audio box....
