Bugfix update Live 8.0.4 is available!

Post by Alex » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:00 am

Hi folks,

we just released the latest Live 8 bugfix update, Live 8.0.4.
Just use the "Check for Updates" command from Live's help menu or check http://www.ableton.com/download-live?v=full .
If you are a Suite user and have installed all content then it is enough to download the Live versions instead of the Suite.

The list of improvements and bugfixes coming with Live 8.0.4 are documented here:
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=117566

Kind Regards,
Alex

Is there a way to install "Live" only? Without Collision, Opertor or the other instrumnets and all the presets and stuff?

It really takes long to install all that (when open the new version for the first time) and i don´t even own Collision or any of Abletons instruments, so can i just abort the installationprocess which comes up when i open the new version for the first time or do i loose any effect presets than as well, which might get installed in this very process?

Thanx for a short answer! :)

Alex listed the "normal" full version.
I think the suite download is the one with the white splash.
http://www.ableton.com/download-suite?v=suite

But technically they're the same. Apart from the splash screen and the 1.2gb of content.
I wouldn't mind a suite download without content. Which should be the normal download. But that isn't the case.

So other than the splash screen gong back to color, there's no difference for suite owners if they download the regular version? Ie. No content has been updated?

I hate that I have to ask this every time...

I downloaded the normal full version as linked by Alex and it loads up with the white splash here too. There's a whole folder filled with splash screens for every possible scenario. From APC edition to Suite.

Its dependent on your license really. I suppose if you download the Live 8 suite but only have a Live 8 serial, it'll open up with the colored splash.

This can't really be true or it's broken. Myself, as well as others who own the suite got colored splash screens after updating last time.

But hwo cares about that, it's just a splash screen. As long as we know that no suite content has been updated so we can just download the regular version, then it's cool. I'm just never sure. But I guess they would explicitly tell us if we were supposed to download the suite installer with content again.

Wonderful to see they fix APC problems so quickly.

What about users of other controllers? Less support for users of other brands now cos Ableton like to sell theit own stuff?

Might this also be the reason for not providing an industry standart eucon protocol?

What about a high quality controller with motordriven faders and a display AND support for Logic and other apps?

No - I will not switch my controllers for using Live. I'll switch Live to use my controllers.

Will wait till V9. If there are still no plans of supporting Eucon or even support controllers made for Live like Faderfox completely and bug free I'll definetly switch. Already learning Logic. Never used a DAW which FULLY supports Eucon.

For now Live for me is just a Excel-Sheet to fire clips and do a bit of FX. Why? Bad controller support.
Anyway just for firing clips Live is overpriced. Except you fell in love with your computer mouse.

Damn Where is the blue Hand?

I can't see it.

Well, will try later, if not >> all is ok for me

Will try some 3rd party vst's tonight

After crash test dummies ... we got crash test ableton

@ weedywhizz  if it were only for firing audio clips... but it's so much more
Edit: Editing, composing, impro sessions... the DAW I always dreamed about.
You know what, now I feel Like 15years ago with my mixing table and my analog Jx-3P + Tx-802 + Tr-707 + FX
All in a heavy racky plus many room required.
Excepted that now I got all these in a reduced space with ease and fresh will to make sounds

Haven't you tried the demo?

I tried the demo. The demo doesn't give me Eucon support as well :) . Under Live 7 my Faderfoxes went fine. But - Faderfoxes are not for producing due to various limitations. They are just for live performance. As well as the APCs.
I cannot see any Controller on the market which is supported the same way by Live as the Euphonix controllers support Logic. Or - Logic supports those controllers.
What Ableton put on the market is a performance controller. Still no controller which fully supports plugins including ALL parameters etc.
Otherwise if Live really wants to be a DAW for professionals why is there no real support for industry standard controllers. With real support I don't mean controlling a total of stunning 8!!! parameters on an instrument rack. With REAL control I mean the way Logic can be controlled via Euphonix controllers. Take a look at youtube! You'll know what I'm talking about.

The other thing was - absolutely NO feedback after sending 8 mails to customersupport via different mail accounts to be sure not to get filtered out by an agressive spam filter. I mentioned the probs with the faderfoxes. It took 1 (ONE)!!! day to get feedback from Mathias from Faderfox who also stated the FF/Live trouble as a Live bug. I have to state out that they always replied within 24 hrs when my activations have gone and I needed another one. Still no replies to the FF/Live problem. I even don't know if this bug is filed.
As I already read in this forum somewhere - Ableton has no plans to support Eucon. Another point which excludes Live from beeing professional. Have you taken a look in a few professional studios?
Always Logic, Logic, Logic....with a MC5 system by Euphonix. Not those "Kindergarten" controllers sold by Ableton and various other companies. I absolutely don't like pushing my computer mice around. No chance to get professional/producing without even nearly using that rat.

Live looked very good to me in the beginning when i was just firing clips and playing around with fx. As soon as I'm getting deeper into it as more I see Live is not for productions and studios. Except u are a hardcore mouse lover.

If there would be Eucon support - possibilities were damn great. So what about M4L & APC? No good point to buy them any more with Eucon built in....but M4L brings a bunch of money and APC too. It seems to me they try to lock Live fans in the Ableton world.

K - I'll stop yelling. I'll buy a professional DAW and sell my 8 suite. Too pricey to only fire clips.
