Ableton 4 in rewire with Cubase SX 2
I'm trying to use Ableton Live 4 in rewire with Cubase SX 2. Audio works well but when I use MIDI I don't find the outputs in Cubase so I can't hear anything of what Live plays. Why so? Have I got a problem with my pc or is this the way Live works in rewire?

The problem is that it seems to me that it's not possible to use midi when Live is in rewire slave with Cubase.
When i use Reason in slave with cubase I can choose the output from the midi channel in Cubase and select the device, and I can control that device (Dr. Rex for example) directly from cubase receiving the sound from Reason.
I can't do the same with Live... I'm not able to use the Impulse or the Simpler from Live and control and record them on Cubase becase Cubase doesn't show to me the midi output for Live. So... Have i got a problem with my sistem or is it impossible to use the midi devices of Live when it's used in rewire slave? If so what's the meaning of use Live in rewire with Cubase?
The audio channels work perfectly and Cubase receive the audio signal on the bus selected so I can include the audio track making a final Mixdown on Cubase, but what about the midi?

hi
you cannot use cubase midi tracks to control live.
but u can
1. disable a midi input in the device setup of SX, and then that one should be avilable in a rewired live.
2. get a virual midi app like midi yoke or loopback (google it) and then you can choose a virutal midi out for a sx midi track, and select that virtual midi in in live's midi control pref's.
hope that helps

hi, andrea to get a basic idea , you have to enable the out mapping in the rewire channel in cubase,,, sometimes when you open a "default" project in cubase the rewire channel is not mapped ,, you have to select the rewire channel then in the track pane ,,where it says out select bus 1 ,,then you will hear the midi data in live,,impulse or the simpler,,,,, an easy thing for you to do to get the idea is ,,open a "empty" project in cubase ,,engage live's out via "devices " then open live ,, by default you should see a stereo out in the rewire channel in sx.. then in live insert the impulse and create a pattern ,, thats it,,,, alwys make sure to start your song on the 2nd measure ,, I get a buz sound if I start on measure 1
i forgot to mention you can draw your notes in live (in a implulse or simpler track) or you can trigger them via a midi controller, ,,you can record midi and audio data in live, not in cubase from live,, only the vsti's from within cubase will get you recorded midi data in cubase..

Thanks a lot! I've never tought about to disable the midi in cubase and to use it in Live, now everything works perfectly. I can record my midi directly on Live and route the midi channel to the bus selected in Cubase and include the Live session in the final audio mixdown in Cubase.
Anyway I think It will be usefull to think about to develop (in future Live release) a way to control Live through cubase, as Reason can do.

i think my problem is a little different. when i rewire ableton4 through cubase sx2 the midi notes i play on cubase pile on top of each other to the left.
this happened to me when i first bought cubase but i found out that it was the driver for my remote audio midi controller that needed updating which i did and it worked fine, until this. i've also tried it with a remote 25 with the same result.
its driving me crazy. thanks in advance.

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

I had a similar problem with an oxygen keyboard, found out it was the USB driver!bravecaptain wrote:i think my problem is a little different. when i rewire ableton4 through cubase sx2 the midi notes i play on cubase pile on top of each other to the left.

Try using the MIDI OUT (round 5 pin DIN) connection instead, thru normal midi cables.
Hope it helps
