Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
I can't get my hands on an APC 40 here in Holland, and I just found a place in the states where INCLUDING shipping and paying 19% VAT over the APC AND the shipping (which is a service you bought so it's also taxable!) it will save me 100 Euros!!!!!
The "good" people of Akai have made it crystal clear that you will not have any warranty (and I will have to get a 220v PSU) so I'd like to know if anyone had a faulty APC yet?

Sorry, I won't answer your question. But my wall-wart is of the switching kind, so only a prong adapter is needed.

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
My APC40 works great with the exception that it makes a very low white noise when turned on. I talked to an Akaipro tech person and he said it's normal but if it gets louder I have a one year warranty, blah blah blah. Now that I am aware of this noise, it irritates me a little. Seems pretty solid otherwise.
Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
After reading about this for the first time yesterday when I saw other people posting about this issue(?), I went home last night and put my ear about an inch from my APC40. That was how close I had to be to hear any sort of noise coming from it. I wish my damn PC was as quiet as the APC!channelite wrote:My APC40 works great with the exception that it makes a very low white noise when turned on. Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
Bit off the main topic here, but I wonder what it is that can be making any noise in the APC? I mean, the power supply is external, there's no fans, no need for any fancy processor, no motors, not even a display. I would expect it to make as much noise as my UC-33e, which is exactly zero.Musashi wrote:After reading about this for the first time yesterday when I saw other people posting about this issue(?), I went home last night and put my ear about an inch from my APC40. I dont have an apc, and i'm not in holland, but mate, if you get one and its faulty, wont that mean you're fucked? what about getting one form europe, surely that would avoid warranty issues?

My unit works like a charm, this machine rock hard... but
WHITE NOISE
Fortunately my environment is a bit noisy (road not too far) so it's covered by ambiant noise, however I can't imagine this in a proper acoustically treated room.
You can delocate your computer etc. to avoid fan noise but you can't with a control surface.
Ok Akai, I forgive you if you exchange my unit with a fader motorized one

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
gotcha, the warranty thing.
that sucks you can't get one in your country, not to mention the shaft people pay in Euros for one. I still can't believe Akai would rep themselves like that.
riot at Akai HQ!
it's summer, grab a chick and travel Europe, bring home an APC. totally jealous of how close the European countries are to each other. we get Canada, Mexico and Jamaica otherwise it's a looooong ass expensive flight.

Go to Montreal. It's as close as you can get to tricking yourself into thinking that you're visiting Europe. And the espresso is almost tasty.Tone Deft wrote:gotcha, the warranty thing.

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
Can you believe that after paying 19% VAT over the COMBINED price of the APC and the FedEx shipping it's still 100 Euros ($140 dollars!!!) cheaper than buying it here? Unbefuckinglievable! And they say the tax and distribution makes it more expensive in Europe? Hardly the most efficient thing getting a single one shipped over from the US by parcel post and still that would save me 100 Euros???? RAAAAHHHHHHH
Just got an email back from the shop in the Staes bytheway: They're out of APC's.
Well as we say in Holland: Fuck that shit I'll get it whenever! Akai sucks!!!! At distribution and at fair pricing!!!!

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?
I'm not sure it's too far off the main topic since some people may consider this "noise" as a fault in the APC. But in my opinion, the APC makes about as much noise as a standard light bulb, meaning it's pretty much next to no noise at all. But I can only speak from what mine "sounds" like. I guess it's possible some of them make far more noise. Either that or some of us have some seriously keen hearing that I could only wish I still had.8O wrote: Bit off the main topic here, but I wonder what it is that can be making any noise in the APC?
