i wouldnt say its USELESS, just not as effective as some of the other things you could get for your money. Shuttle has released new boxes that support socket 939 AMD's, and socket 775 Intels.
an FX-53 with 1GB DDR400 (dual channel memory controller), and serial raid would cost you as much as a dual opteron setup, be just as effecient when multitasking multiple applications, it would be MORE effecient for single applications, and it would cost less to upgrade in a year.
i think iWill is marketing this dual opteron toward server software developers, and gaming developers that are wanting to bring multi-threading into the gaming world. (read: more, more, more). So for Ableton, this isnt an immediate "hell ya!", but it will help in the future.
This may spark a trend toward more dual processors in SFF, which could spark possible duals in laptops. seeing how far technology has come in the last 3 years, i'd expect a dual cpu laptop that got 3 or 4 hours battery life sometime within the next 3 years. and THATs something to look forward to.
