live sends start note late to VSTi's w/sequencers

I'm using the SonicCharge MicroTonic drum sequencer (which is fantastic!) and Live keeps sending it the clock at weird points. it's timing is correct, but the first note isn't played. it just skips over it (the light above the first step in MicroTonic doesn't even light up, as it usually does when the step is reached). the same thing happens when I try to use the drum sequencer in Reaktor. and I know it's not the VSTi's; they work just fine elsewhere.

the workaround, of course, is to send MicroTonic MIDI notes corresponding to whatever is played on that first step. Live does that just fine. weird..... (but that's what I'm beginning to expect from it)

any one else experience this? do I have something possibly set up wrong?

The same thing happens in Cubase SX 2 with MicroTonic.
