What do I need to buy in order to plug in my guitar to the computer and record it with Live Version 7?
What's the most compatible?
Are these some examples? http://www.amazon.com/EMU-Xmidi-1x1-MID ... 236&sr=1-3

Plugging in my Guitar? What cables?
Re: Plugging in my Guitar? What cables?
If you just want to record one input (your GTR), try the M-Audio Jam Lab.
Basically what you need is an audio interface with a "hi-z" input. Most normal sized interfaces have this.
Here are a list of interfaces:

Midi is not Audio.
The input/outputs on the Behringer are RCA. Your guitar uses a 1/4 cable.

Buy yourself some time. What I mean is don't rush this. Its bigger than you think. I bought a mixer (soundcard) and ended up having to get better pre-amps later. Could have just spent an extra 250 when I bought the mixer and got... a better mixer
So buy something that will take care of you for a long time to come without raping your wallet today or tomorrow.
Tubes are your friend.
The Alesis in my sig below got me started and then got me bummed.
The Presonus fixed the problem.

Re: Plugging in my Guitar? What cables?
so would the Alesis Guitarlink work with Ableton Live?
Re: Plugging in my Guitar? What cables?
I dunno... I just googled it. I suppose it could work. It wouldn't give you very much control of your signal. I guess it would really depend on how good your pickups are.
If it were me and I wanted to try that cable... I would be buy it somewhere in town and keep the receipt. That way if it doesn't work you can take it back.
On the one hand I could see it working and on the other I can see a weak and thin waveform being recorded... Its probably great for getting ideas down, but as far as really getting a quality recording... mileage may vary.

it would be fine, pickups won't matter, they are what they are.
I have a similar thing, the Stealthplug. they just took a tiny sound card and put a USB cable on one end and a guitar lead on the other end. I've only used it a few times but it works OK. I get lower latency with my sound card (Edirol UA101). FWIW I have a Line 6 PodXT for guitar tone.

all you need is an interface (firewire, USB or PCI sound card) with a "Hi Z" input. no more techshit is needed than that.
don't cheap out on this, if you do it will make your life miserable later. you'll get higher latency, poor CPU performance (you can only do small sets in Live) and more.
avoid M Audio, their stuff is the worst quality and can cause problems, of course YMMV.
honestly, get your guitar tone outside the computer. it'll end up where you want to play guitar but the computer's crashing or acting up. also, there's nothing like playing a zero latency tone source compared to through a computer. you can get a Line 6 Pocket Pod and Pod for cheap new. OR get a used Line 6 Pod first generation for cheap. they released generation 3 of those last year and people sold the old ones for cheap, nothing wrong with them.
if you get a get a Pod, you would run that into the computer just like any synth, no "Hi Z" input needed.
oh, and what gear do you already have?
