I used to be pretty proficient with Live, but I've admittedly stopped using it for some time.
I remember how to bring a song into Live, warp the song, and isolate a small (1 bar perhaps) loop in the song.
Can I now turn this loop clip into a separate, stand alone file stored somewhere on my computer that is just that perfect loop?
My goal is to dissect songs into hundreds of little loops and store those loops in a new loop library. Can someone point me to the quickest and easiest method of this in Live?
Thanks in advance!
Getting a loop library from your songs quickly
Re: Getting a loop library from your songs quickly
Look for Tom Cosm's tutorial on preparing production projects for use in live sets. It should be on his site and there may be a version on the pages of this forum if not a link. That should get you 95% of where you want to go.
Re: Getting a loop library from your songs quickly
Creat a folder on your drive, bring your song into live, chop it up into the smaller clips that you want. Crop them all (with r-click... 'crop') and drag them into the folder.... (or just save the song and go to the saved song folder). All cropped clips will be in there.
Re: Getting a loop library from your songs quickly
Thanks to both of you. I'll def check out that tutorial, but Willyum seems to have the answer I was looking for with the cropping and dragging.
Though, if I drag them into the folder the clips only turn into .alc files.
If I save the song and try to go to the song folder through my computer, I only see the .als file, it seems that I can only access the actual audio files that way through Live itself.
I'm looking for these to be .wav files, and the quickest way to do that I've found (so far) is to close Live after making all my cropped clips and say "no" to deleting the temporary files, then I go to the Temp-Project folder that is created and all my cropped clips are there in .wav file format.
Thanks again Willyum!

Re: Getting a loop library from your songs quickly
Are you on a Mac or something, On Pc (I just double checked to make sure I gave the proper steps) when I drag clips from session view I get Wav only files transfered... If I drag from the arrange view I get wavs and alc files. If you are on a PC, double check your settings cause it's working (8.0.4 and I used to do it in Live 6 also).Frantic wrote:Though, if I drag them into the folder the clips only turn into .alc files.

But the Temp folder is pretty much the same, as long as its woring, you're in good shape.
Cheers

Yes, I'm on a PC using Live 6... strange. I just tried again, and dragging a clip into a folder that I create is only creating an alc file, in either view.
I'll check to see if there's anything in the settings about it, but the temp folder is working for me to get the wavs if all else fails. Thanks again for the prompt reply my friend.
