The LM is quite a lot of fun. 16 is fine for home use. No display, no big loss. Price is a steal. Then you'll want Uad.

already want the UAD-2 quad... just haven't been able to justify that purchase. i have no problem justifying smaller purchases when i put it in terms of how many days of work does it take to buy something. like the LM16 would now just be 1 day for me. the APC 40 was 2 days. i think that's why i have more gear than i need.

how much latency is added when using dsp cards? i'd imagine the UAD-2 adds less than the LM, being that it's built on the speedier PCIe platform.

for users with the UAD-2 or this LM 16, how many total ms of latency do these dsp solutions add?

You can't track with the LM, you can with Uad-2. I set the latency at 512 when mixing and everything's fine.

When I have only a couple of tracks (so for example tracking vocals with a skeleton/guide track this would be feasible) I can get my UAD-2 down to 64 samples.
If you can't afford a Quad get a Duo, that's like having 5 UAD-1 cards and it makes no difference for the driver, you can always add another one after that.
Anyway, total UAD junkie here, never thought I'd get so many plug-ins but man they sound good...

So would most say that if given the choice of buying a Liquid Mix 16 cheaply vs. saving and buying a UAD duo or quad, they should take option 2 and save/buy UAD?

do you think audiomidi.com is hurting for business? they are throwing out some pretty big deals in the last month.. hope they continue to do so! they aren't charging full sales tax to CA residents either.

I'd be real surprised if these guys are hurting for business... I mean they have all the working ingredients for a steady flow of customers... Knowledgeable staff, good prices, great marketing (via the killer deals) and they work to develop a good relationships with customers via phone.

I think they might just have a found a winning idea, that's been working well with certain companies. The Liquid Mix might just be a blowout deal to cut theirs losses and move on, but the other stuff (Breverb 4.99 version, PSP's Nito and Antares Mutator) I imagine was done in cooperation, so I doubt there were any major losses on their part, but of course could very well be wrong.

This little guy looks pretty cool. I wonder why they are so cheap? I'm guessing that they don't have and will not have drivers for 64bit OS's but I could be wrong.

1.) this deal is a steal

2.) focusrite´s liquid mix has support for 64 bit versions of windows xp and windows vista (was introduced in the driver version 2.2.1)

3.) comparing UAD and LM is like comparing apples and oranges. btw, things you should know: the liquid mix uses dynamic convolution whereas the UA plug-ins are modeled after classic analog devices.

4.) don´t believe the UAD hype (UAD-1e user here!), you also couldn´t track with the UAD-1(e) because of latency, obviously you can track with the UAD-2, but for my taste the UAD-2 cards are too expensive.

the sound of liquid mix is good, but it´s limited to compressors and eqs only.

if you want dynamic convolution technology as a native plug-in, then you should check out the NEBULA plug-in from http://www.acusticaudio.net/

i have to admit that the nebula plug-in is amazing. there´s more than compressors and eqs plus it´s cheaper than LM or UAD and it runs natively. it´s an really awesome sounding plug-in!

today´s computers aren´t in need of dsp cards anymore. you can run plug-ins natively without hiccups.

That acoustic audio...do you have any insight on how the free version is vs. the full? I have a LiquidMix with the screen so i don't need like 100 more compressors or anything.

For the price, the LM 16 is worth it, i got my normal version for $700, i honestly don't use it much at all because i never really finish too many songs, but i do think it was worth it because it is nice to have the knobs to actually mess with, i personally would miss the screen, but you're saving a ton of money to not have it so i would say go for it.

I have no experience with UAD but i do wish at times i got one instead of a LM, so do your research before you drop the money down.
