Propellerheads Record Anyone?

Post by 4ace » Fri Jul 31, 2009 1:31 am

For the past 3 years i've been putting up with glitches in my audio when recording through Live. I haven't really wanted to dive into some expansive program and have a huge learning curve BUT.....

Record beta just dropped so i'm trying it.

I want the simplicity of pro tools audio without the B.S hardware dongle. Fingers Crossed 8)

Oh and i plan to use Ableton Live Via Rewire because it is a great program that i will not stop using. That should satisfy the terms of use ehh?

Record is still going to have a dongle or "ignition key" as they call it... it just isn't going to be a full interface dongle.

With your set up, unless you're wanting to process tons of plugins in real time, you should not be suffering glitching too much in Live - maybe there are some optimizations you missed (turn off wifi, turn off speedstepping etc). Which audio interface are you using ?? (ultralite ?? or something not in your specs - do you have the latest drivers, etc).

If you want protools like audio, why not buy protools ??? Record is a bit - meh for me. Propellerheads should just have included an audio front end in Reason, instead of making it a seperate product and dongleizing it. The mixer view window is not bad, the timestretching is supposedly really good (I don't know if it will be better than Live 8, PTLE8 or the new Logic 9 flex audio though) and the SSL plugins are emulations, which I have heard are not really sounding that authentic compared to SSL Duende or Waves SSL plugins, but look like nice eye candy.

I've tried the optimizations you mentioned to no avail. It's pretty odd actually. I've tried 4 different macs and 3 different interfaces all having Live as the only thing in common and the same problem. Only when recording audio into Live, it sounds as if someone is randomly whispering a "Pssst" into my audio VERY WEIRD!

I've been working around it for so long i just thought i'd give something else a try and for free ......why not.

I will not use pro tools because of the hardware limitations .

I understand where you're coming from, but probably half of the people posting on here seem to be running Macbooks or MBPs and they don't feel a need to use another audio program. It's a strange one Captain !

Anyway, you can always try Record and see how it works with your setup, but rewiring can be very intensive on the CPU and Live doesn't allow you to rewire any VST/AU plugins, you will have to use Live's own devices or render those tracks to audio first.

Dongles? Buy the software, but use the cracked version. Don't even hate on me, like no one has ever done this. That SSL compressor sure looks tasty, and I have lots of love for that company dating back from Rebirth.

who says there is a cracked version and even if there is, who's to say it will work properly ?

well, you're definitely gonna have to wait a bit for the solid crack to appear. I guess I wasn't speaking of a solution that could be implemented tomorrow.
