Re: OMG: Metasynth 5 (universal binary+)
I've always wanted to get into Metasynth, but $599 is too steep for my blood.

used MS4 license + (for 'a limited time only') 99 bucks upgrade = not so bad.

They're hard to come by, but yeah, that's about the only solution. Not many people who buy it hate it though.1.6180339887 wrote:used MS4 license + (for 'a limited time only') 99 bucks upgrade = not so bad.
Question, you own it I'm thinking? Are the synths only playable in Metasynth? Rewire? or is it import anything you do into Live and continue? If that's the case, I guess Sound Flower or Jack Tools would work, for composition, but I would hope something a little more elegant in 09?

Re: OMG: Metasynth 5 (universal binary+)
nothing as elegant as rewire.
Render & import [or] use soundflower (input & output). There's some improvements in MS5 which make the soundflower option easier.
of course there are extras like:
http://www.metaessentials.com/products.html
handy for importing rex files and midi
metasynth is a strange way of doing things, not for everyone and it's pricey if you don't want to hang around for a used license. At least now modern machines are finally getting their CPU's worth.

Re: OMG: Metasynth 5 (universal binary+)
Metasynth was a weird annoying thing for me - I was really excited by the concept so I bought it and at the time only had my girlfriend's old powerbook (Pismo) to use it on (OS9) then she updated, and it did weird shit under 'classic' mode and the sound card didn't work properly, so I couldn't really use it
I've got this 2.74 bundle license (+ meta track and Xx) and I've basically never used it
Only just recently come back to Mac and I can't afford to upgrade
just looked at the page, its $299!
So if anyone wants to make me an offer they could probably save themselves $100 bucks or something on the update

Sorry to burst the bubble, but the upgrade price at $299 is brutally high, without whatever cash I would throw at alex.
Sweetwater has copies of Metasynth 4 for $399. It's certain that the upgrade is free for copies bought after the upgrade came out.
It does look like a cool product, but I'm fighting to stay ahead of the game as it is, and I want to upgrade both Live and Logic. Even getting the best deals possible, the price of Metasynth is still almost enough to cover upgrading Live, Logic and Digital Performer.
Plus at some point upgrading Speakerphone to 2.... blah! give me guitar and an amp for fucks sake?

Why did the price go up on this? I remember version 4 being far less than $600 bucks.
Tried the demo: Get Komplete 5 instead for $399!

Not really interested on debating whether metasynth is over-priced or not, but considering the upgrade price from 4 is only 99bucks - there's every reason to believe you can make considerable savings.

Re: OMG: Metasynth 5 (universal binary+)
MS is totally worth it. Have been using it for nearly 10 years, when I used to muck around w/ the demo using my mom's Mac, while sampling the output into my Kurz K2500RS. I finally bought a Mac Pismo laptop (2001) just so I could get Metasynth (finally buying the bundle) and use it away from studio back in the day.
Soon I'll be getting the upgrade soon if some other things fall into place.
Cheers!
