Help!!! Playing Separate MIDI Channels In Live 4...

Post by laconic » Thu Aug 26, 2004 11:17 pm

Help!

I am currently learning to use Steinberg's "Virtual Guitarist" VSTi Plug-in with Live 4.

The Virtual Guitartist manual notes that the instrument has special functions when it is played via MIDI Channel 16. I am not sure how to configure LIVE 4's MIDI In/Out so that I can control the VST instrument though MIDI Channel 16. Please advise me on how to access that channel and play the instrument through it.

Thank you.

Er...in a midi track you can select "midi from" below the midi input and select your midi channel ie 16. Don't use VG but you may need to set it's receive channel to 16 too.

Sorry, but it is not possible to switch the MIDI Channel in a track. Live always sends on MIDI channel 1 in the track the instrument is installed in.

Anyway. there is a workaround. Install the Virtual Guitartist in one MIDI track and create your clips in another. Put in the track with the clips the "MIDI To" chooser to the track the Virtual Guitarist is installed in and select in the submenu Channel 16.

We are sorry that this is not convenient, but in the most cases it is a clear advantage that you don't have to care about MIDI channels at all.
