Just wanted to share this: I came across the plogue-forum where one of the developers of bidule pointed to VB Audio Mechanic & Sound Breeder
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/vb-audio/us/ho.htm
There they have two versions of an extremly well working DXfx-shell: ffx4 and ff16 wich may contain up to 4 resp. 16 DXfx in a rack. Not only is ffx4 working perfectly for me under WinXP in Live. It will also remember every setting from any inserted DXfx-plug-ins I've been trying until now (some of Waves Restoration bundle, Ohmforce Predatohm).
Best is, ffx4 is freeware with an identical feature set from ffx16, wich comes for 116 €.
Now beeing able to use some of the best mastering-plug-ins with Live is just kicking me...
If you have some DXfx you always wanted to use with Live, give it a try!
