Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
Hi there; right off the bat I have to say that I am extremely new with not only this software, but any music recording or production software so if I seem a little slow please excuse it. Anyway on to the issue: I received this software with my new Novation X-Station and I'm having one hell of a time trying to get any playback from the software. I got my hands on the ASIO4ALL driver which seems to work properly; the software can receive input from my X-Station without any problem and I can hear the test tone when testing latencies in the option menu but then that's it.
Any help and insight on this would be incredibly helpful.

Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
ASIO has nothing to do with midi, just audio.
what's the problem exactly? short questions appreciated.
please do give the manual a look over. also open the help box in the lower left corner of the GUI and look around the screen to start to know the controls.

Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm using ASIO as the device requires them to be able to send messages via USB. The problem is that if I use my X-Station with this software I get no playback even if the software is receiving the messages.
Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
oh, I forgot the X-Station did audio as well as midi.
you have audio data in Live and you want to listen to it through the X-Station??
will Live play? I mean if you hit play does it look like it's playing but you don't hear sound?
do you set up the audio in options-preferences-audio? enable the audio inputs and outputs?

No, I just want to listen to it through the software. Live will play, I can record audio using the midi and everything looks find visually I just get nothing in the playback.
And yes, I enabled them in the preferences.
Another thing to note is in the Arrangement view the output on any midi channel that is using the X-Station as an input.

Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
if you can post a screenshot that will speak volumes as to what's going on.
do you see audio coming out of the Master output? is the output on the Master out set to the correct output? can you use the X Station to listen to audio from other sources? are you sure the XStation's volume is up?

Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
I'm having this exact same problem. I can see the audio signal in the master send and individual send, but I can't hear it through the computer's speakers. However, If I switch to the MME/Direct X driver, I get audio as well as the visual indicator of a signal in the master and individual sends. Problem with that is, there's too much latency with the MME/Direct X driver.
Anybody know how to solve this?
Thanks!

When you say you "can't hear it through the computer's speakers" do you mean the speakers built into your laptop?Spazmo wrote:I'm having this exact same problem. Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
Yes, correct. The audio will not play through the speakers on my laptop. I can see the levels increasing, which indicates that audio is coming in, but I can't hear it.
One further point, I noticed that when I selected the Asio driver, the "Audio Output Device" option disappears. It's available when I have MME/Direct X selected (the laptops speakers are the option I select and I'm able to hear audio through the laptop speakers), but not when the Asio driver is selected.
I'm assuming this has a lot to do with it.
Am I missing something? Does Asio not support output through computer speakers?
Thanks!

Re: Issue with getting Midi playback using ASIO drivers
You are correct, sir!
The ASIO drivers for your Novation only support sending audio through the Xio itself. (Line out, headphone jacks, line in, etc.)
Sadly, you'll probably need to find a pair of monitors or headphones.
