Here is problem:
I have iBook 700 mhz, maxed out RAM, running LIve 4.0.
I have one Firewire output on iBook. I have my Firewire audio device MOTU, Firewire hooked up to my external hard drive, and then into the computer Firewire, as I use my hard drive to store samples, etc. for Live 4.0. No problems with this set up on 3.0.
However, on 4.0, I am choking after loading a couple of MIDI files and a couple of audio files. What it does is strange. I often get no sounds going to soundcard at first hitting play clips. Then, shortly thereafter, it slowly starts to play the clips, breaking up at first, and then finally, coming in clear. I have adjusted the Clip buffer in Preferences and seems to work at a very low level around 10-12...in the buffer preference. If it's up near 600 plus it really distorts and chokes. No matter, what setting I set it at, it always chokes completely, playing no audio, and then, as mentioned, finally gets around to playing the audio! Strange.
A strange thing is, that once it gets playing....I can continue adding clips and MIDI files...(am using Swar Plug in only)....
If I stop the sequence, it often reverts to the "won't play mode, stuttering and finally plaing mode"... Strange behavior.....
Again, no problems with 3.0 playing clips, but is only happening on 4.0. I assume it has something to do with speed of processor????. Or is it a firewire thing? Would having two firewire outputs, one for hard drive and one for the MOTU help? Am concerned as I can't use this as a live instrument playing samples and MIDI files unless this is figured out.
