It's awesome. Cant wait to try the reverb-test :)
If it's compact enough i can take it on stage.

I dig it. That would look quite nice in my rig. 7200 rpm h/d is nice but I'd like to be able to add more than 2 gb of ram. Otherwise, the form factor kinda makes me feel my powerbook wouldn't be missed. except when i'm on the toilet.

The powerbook is due for an update too.
I think if they introduce the dual g4 powerbooks well have the power of a studio on stage. On the otherhand, if this g5 performs as well as the specs say........
I guess the main thing to consider is that Live doesn't support dual processors (yet). Wich makes the difference between buying a powermac or a imac. Yet the price's are a struggle. a fully loaded 17" 1,8ghz would cost around 2500$

think how sexy it'd be to have one on stage...

I was hoping they'd go for a nearly wireless solution though with a bluetooth or RF mouse and keyboard... oh well... cheers to wire clutter :P

An extra 100$ for the bluethooth module + mouse and keyboard.

yeah, i've thought about it for a while now and i'm not as impressed as i was at 5 in the morning. i know it's the first "affordable" G5 system but it in their marketing they say "welcome to the future." If it were the future they would have built bluetooth in and taken advantage of the wireless keys/mouse and stocked it with at least 512mb of ram. By the time I configured it the way I wanted it....I could afford the powermac and sacrifice the apple flatpanel for a generic lcd. at least i could add a powercore card.
I know this is superficial but the logos on the new iMac are TOO BIG and gaudy.
Does anyone think it would be possible to engineer the Powercore card into a firewire device? I'm sure it's possible and I'm sure I'd buy one.

the nice thing about the fw version is it is either two or four times more powerful than the pci version... I think it is twice... but can't remember off the top of my head and don't feel like reading :P

I can´t wait to try one

since there has been a 1,6 ghz single powermac before, it would be interesting to here if anyone in this forum has some experience with life on a 1,6 ghz g5. i would really appreciate any input on the processor power

i like the idea of a tiny musical workplace, since I´m a hobbiest user with too much equipment and not enough space.

a new imac + a tascam fw 1884 might be a dream come true.

the big white space on the bottom seems a bit too much, but on the other hand, it is a perfect place for post-its

I think it looks wicked - but 256 ram in 2004 seems a bit mean - 512 should be the very least by this stage of the game

But if i had to get rid of my laptop for some reason and had a grand I would definitely consider it

keep in mind the original 1.6ghz G5 powermac had an 800mhz FSB.
The new dual 2.5ghz have dual 1250mhz FSB's

the new iMacs have 533 and 600mhz FSB's.

they sure are prrrrrrty tho =)
