Is modern electronic music mastered to your taste?

Post by ikeaboy » Thu Aug 20, 2009 3:51 pm

I'm putting together a DJ set at the momnet with some new material of my own and tracks by other people that compliment my style. Problem is I prefer promonent bass with the mids further back in the mix kinda draped around, on top of and slightly behind the bass, same goes for all but the high treble which has more energy. This sounds perfect to my ears and taste until I crossfade it with most other producers tracks where the mids totaly drown out the mids in my track. Now I can correct this with mastering plug-ins but I'd rather not do it as I don't like to over cook things or throw away the balance I like. Unfortunately for me my track need to compete in a mix with others that have this upfront mid range style of production. This seems to be an issue for me apart from the loudness war. It could be my mids just aren't dense enough or I need to EQ while mixing but what I'm concerned about is my desire for subtlety is going to be interpreted as a weak mix by dj end users.
Anyone encountered this dilema?
