Live 4 - midi arpeggiator please.

Post by B » Wed Sep 01, 2004 12:27 pm

I think I could finally ditch cubase if Live 4 had an arp.

How about in 4.0.2?

MIDI Arp

Post by Atom808 » Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:18 am

I second this... would be a great MIDI plug-in. IMO, more useful than the auto chord plug.

Are there such things as 3rd party MIDI plug-ins?

i think it's probably a fair assumption that we'll see this in the next big release.

Yes please! I'm sure the Ableton guys could pull of a really great arpeggiator if the other tools are anything to go by

You mean, like an arpeggiator?

EnergyXT: http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/453.html

It isn't free, although the demo works perfectly fine. It's got some other stuff inside it as well, but the arpeggiator is what I'll be using it for.

What you do is load EnergyXT into a MIDI track, then load a VST synth INSIDE EnergyXT. After that, you can arpeggiate it to your hearts content.

Well Energy takes a bit of setting up to actually act like a real arp.

The arp module is a step sequencer, and you have to combine it with the chord module in XT.

There is SUPPOSED to be an Ableton arp sometime soon (the Abletons mentioned this during beta testing).

I think they need to update Live to allow passing of midi from plugins first, or it won't work.

Hopefully there will be some news soon?

If you're interested in crazy Arp/Seq type stuff (on the cheap too) check out Numerology (MacOSX only). It's got a bit of a learning curve, but is a perfect compliment to Live for all things MIDI. (automation, dynamic processing, sequencing, etc)

hope this helps,

I thought Numerology just had step sequencers, not actual arps?

i know it sounds a little out there, but Numerology can be a billion different things, all of which can be interdependent.

The easiest way to make an arpeggio in Numerology would be to set up a Matrix module with an external trigger input. the Output of which would be an internal AU, any MIDI out, or any other module in any Numerology group.

Numerology can send, modify, and generate MIDI in any number of ways, and makes a nice companion to Live.

hope this helps,

I was just looking for the arp today only to discover it wasn't there. So this is one I'd want in a future version

Yes, an arp would be nice!

But the Live-team have to solve the prob with miditracks causing the cpu to "tip over" and causing crackles, as it does now - really annoying!!! So i don't see how an arp would be able to run at all, even running ONE single track only (..) Have to resample the miditrack to an audiotrack, on the fly, stopping it from tipping - and then delete the whole miditrack.. Else i (and many others) can only run around 4-8 tracks, audio&midi together!
That's what i call a b-u-g these days!!

Jo
