Looped sections missing from recorded dj set?

Post by Deacon » Thu Aug 27, 2009 11:58 am

Just started djing with Ableton and have noticed that, after I’ve recorded a set, most of the looped sections (usually the end of a track) don’t actually get recorded into arrangement view.

Why is this? What am i doing wrong here?

Cheers.

hi,

which kind of looped sections? Have you mixed your whole set in the session view? Have you recorded your mix, where the signal comes from a external mixer fed into Live?

Usually everythings gets recorded in the arrangement view if you have pressed the global record on the top. Have you just used the sesson view and armed the tracks for recording and recorded in the slots for clips? in this case the changes of the clips contaning the above mentioned loops wouldnt have been recorded.

I've had this problem also..

I would dj in the arrangement view with the global record button on, simply playing tracks and not adding any audio by input. When I was done I would press global stop and some tracks would not be in the session view and would not play back when I played the recording.

mh, have you armed the regarding tracks in the session view together with the tracks in the arrangement window? I mean with arming to press the red record active button for each track (in both views)?

The representation of the recording is more less independent between each views thus you have to arm in both views.
Global record - records in the arrangement all:
1. Armed tracks (midi / audio)
2. Automation Data

in the session view:
1.nothing unless the record has been started (by arming, than the play clip button gets a record symbol and by clicking it starts by the value of global quantization - clicking again stops the recording and (by default) starts playing back the loop)
2. If the global record is pressed, the changes between the clips will be recorded in the arrangement view and automation as well

In order to keep the right position along the timeline in your mix you should record in the arrangement view and extract the desired clips for rearrangeing later on (for the session view).
