Better Stereo Widener!!!!
Better Stereo Widener!!!!
If I want true stereo imaging, I always export my files out of Live and into Logic. Then I use Logics very simple to use Sample Delay. Why hasn't Ableton come to terms with the fact that the Utility plug-in is a joke for stereo imaging!?!?! I don't want to create complicated racks just to get a bit of stereo enhancement. C'mon guys, I know the Berlin bits and bleeps thing is in style now but some people produce other kinds of music too believe it or not....

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
A better stereo widener would be great!
It could be implemented e.g. as a knob left or right to the pan-knob:

regarding the phase issues, the idea of stereo widening process could look like
some kind of L/R-Brush-EQ:
X Hz band goes to the left, (X + a) Hz band goes to the right, (X + 2a) band to the left and so on..
like in this wonderfull plug-in, which is unfortunately tdm only:

http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=231
(i want really many bands! so that one single sound, like a shaker, could be divided / brushed instead of
being completely panned to the L or R).
Logic has its Stereo Spread for years:

The good thing on it, is that you shoud not have any phase problems just when you using this tool
(I mean, ceteris paribus, when you didt have any phase related problems before you used this feature),
in mono situation the L- and R-parts of the signal would be siply added to "unprocessed" signal,
like puzzle parts..
But of course, there are many other possibilities, how you can implement it,
the L-R-Brush-thinig is just one of them..
And you know, having it just as simple as another channel-knob could be great,
but of course, some folks would like to have more control over it,
like choosing the part of the frequencies, wich would/would not be processed
(dividing a signal e.g. to "unprocessed" low-freq.-part and "processed" high freq. part).
Sorry for my English, it became "rusty" since I moved to Germany

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
you just seem like apple spammers, guys...
tb323 : how many threads with the same "when ableton will add these great things I have in logic" / "in logic I usually do... and then it's easy and genious with this logic's tool to...",
well, how many threads like this will you make?
one for EACH logic tool that live doesn't have?

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
No, actually just 2. Since I only use Live and Logic, it makes sense to me to compare the two. Did I upset you by referring to 2 features I use in Logic that I wish were in Ableton? Isn't this the feature wish list forum? If you consider your reply in any way constructive then you are obviously either a person with way too much free time on your hands or you have no idea what I'm talking about. The first reply on my thread was constructive and overall really good ideas on how to improve control of the stereo field in Live. If you have nothing to offer on the subject then don't reply. This is not a chat room. The topic in your reply is not about stereo imaging like the other reply is. It sounds like you should be policing a Hanna Montana chat room. Please send me a a sample of your original music if you actually make music monstrejumo - whatever that means...

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
get a plugin and let ableton work on those issues 3rd party plugs cant sort out.
KnobCloud - marketplace for audio software
Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
D-Trax,
Thanks for the suggestions...I actually own both plug-ins you mentioned and they are great. I would love for Live to come out with a Sample Delay effect. Just like I mentioned with the reverb, Lives' Delay effects have not been updated in quite a while.

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
you can combine (as racks) grain delay with filterdelay for example and route the delay without feedback to a route channel where the other one(s) are wet only.
be creative and you get better results and possibilities than other daws effects.

Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
ok TB323:
my mistake, really.
But reading my post and your answer, I don't understand why I deserve SO MUCH agressivity form you. Yes my post is totally out of the subject, un-constructive and misplaced and I'm able to understand it and apologize for that, even if it is not so dramatic (is it?). but you seem a really agressive person, and fierce, to attack and judge me on a personnal basis with so much hate.
Ok, as this is another un-constructive post from me, me the OBVIOULSY DUMB MUSICIAN WANNABE, I'm out.
have good times on this forums, good luck.
sorry I didn't see it was the feature wishlist forums, because I saw your 2 posts after a "logic pro" search... and then I have forgotten I was in the "search tool".No, actually just 2. Re: Better Stereo Widener!!!!
We're not asking for a vocoder or something fancy here, we're just looking to add some stereo width. That seems like something that should come standard in a DAW. When Propellerhead reason beats you to the punch.... YIKES!Grappadura wrote:get a plugin and let ableton work on those issues 3rd party plugs cant sort out.

Learn to use the tools you have available in Live properly. It may not be the same as it is in Logic/Reason/whatever, but it certainly isn't fucking rocket science.ryacky wrote: We're not asking for a vocoder or something fancy here, we're just looking to add some stereo width.
