Midi Controllers Keyboard stylee
Ok this is a two part question, first of all does anybody know of a midi controller keyboard that is smaller than the oxgen 8. that thing is too damn big and when ever i'm out in public people are staring at me while i'm trying to work on stuff because the damn keyboard is bigger than my laptop. so does anybody have any suggestions and directions to them because i'm not trying to get attention I just wanna program my beats in peace. oh yeah and not the qy70, that thing eats up batteries like crumbcakes.
# two- what I would love is something like the pc300 but only one or two octaves. If i buy it , does anybody here have the expertise to modify it. (cut it in half) for me without breakin the damn thing so i can use just the first octave or so and the joy stic. of course i would pay you for your trouble, but what do you guys think?[/b]

thanks for responding mfa
yeah i tried that, I actually use the keyboard bass station for my desktop controller. but it is the size I am talkin about and the bass station is bigger
than the oxygen 8. there's got to be somebody here who could modify the edirol pc 300 for me, I think I read some post here about the controllers some live users made for themselves.

This one looks at little smaller than the Oxygen:

I think the Evolution *may* be about the same size. I've always liked this little Yamaha cutey, has built in XG sounds (whatever that's worth), although might have the battery-hunger problem:

sorry, I don't know why my post "re-posted", but while I'm here I'll add just alittle...That little Yamaha has velocity-sensing mini keys, and I wish their were more controllers like that, perhaps minus the crappy XG and add some knobs. I'm a big fan of the mini key. My yamaha cs01 mkii, ooohhh, resonant bass for days!

Ah - then I was wrong in assuming that it would be significantly longer than the Oxy 8 or Evolution, both of which I have owned. I might add that the Oxy 8 is actually smaller than the Evolution, for anyone inclined to choose between them.

While its not actually a controller keyboard, have you thought about using one of the units from the Korg Electribe line?
After reading your post and glancing at my EA-1 I realized that it might have some potential. While you sacrifice velocity (something you might not want to do), you do get a roughly one octave keyboard which you could use to trigger samples, or input simple melodic lines into your sequencer of choice.
It actually worked well with Live when I tried it out, as you have several (switchable) octaves available which you can assign to clips in the session view. Sadly I could not find a way to send different controller values from each of the ten knobs on the EA-1. But perhaps some deeper digging could solve this, allowing all ten knobs to be assigned as well.
Regardless, the EA-1 offers a simple way to input note values, trigger samples, plus you gain a new sound module, all at a relatively low price. Plus it's size is comparable to a laptop.
Anyhow it was just a thought, maybe a decent temporary solution if you already have one kicking around.

SU-10 as midi controller
hi,
looking at a previous thread about small midi controllers, ipulled out my yamaha Su-10 sampler wondering what type of midi implementation it has and its now my midi controller for live!
being about the size of a vhs cassette with four banks of 12 keys and a ribbon controler (which i mapped to the cross fader) plus running off batteries it is a great solution with a small footprint.
thinking maybe joining it with a uc-16 and all bases covered?!
