Is this interface what I need?

Post by JDemonie » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:41 pm

Hi,

Quick question:

I'd like to buy the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 for live performing with my band.
We would have two XLR-mic's going in, run through Ableton (for use with Autotune for example) and
then let them come out. This in combination with a USB-keyboard (M-audio Oxygen 8 v2).

So basically, is it possible to have an output with only XLR-mic 1, one with only XLR-mic 2 and
one with the keyboard?

Or is the answer to that question simply: 'Well duh, the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 has got 6 line outputs, so yes it's perfectly possible!'

lol, but yes. You'll be fine with that. I'm assuming each of these tracks will then go into an external mixer?

Also, just to be clear, when you say an output for the keyboard, you mean instuments _controlled_ by the keyboard, right?

Lastly, remember these are mono outs. If you are using any stereo in your instruments controlled by the oxygen, they will need 2 of the outputs, one for the left signal, one for the right.

2 XLR's in whatever 2 inputs.. MIDI controller in USB or MIDI in.. 1/4in cables from output 1/2 into your mixer will give you a stereo mix of the 2 mic's and whatever you play with your MIDI keyboard.

OR, 2 mics in whatever 2 inputs. MIDI Controller to USB or MIDI in, then output 1 is mic 1, output 2 is mic 2, and then 3/4 can be your MIDI controller, or your "instuments _controlled_ by the keyboard"..

Plenty of routing options with a 6x6 and if you plan on using an external mixer you can definitely separate things out and EQ them or whatever floats your boat.

Got a 6x6 running a XioSynth, Roland SPD-s, 2 drum mics, and hand drum mic, output L/R to speakers and 2 separate (different) head phone mixes.. So yeah you can definitely pull off a couple mic's and a midi keyboard with that!
