some stupid error

Post by celestial » Mon Sep 07, 2009 1:17 am

So I tried loading up my set and got this error. It said "Apparently the document was created by a more recent and compatible version of live than this.

Document is from a newer version. Too many translators"

I have a lot of midi work done on that file I REALLY do not want to be redoing everything all over again. Do any of you guys know what in the world is going on here? :(

Okay, stupid question, but did you create that set on a newer version?

Second question... Have you tried dragging individual midi tracks to a new set?

^^Sometimes this is the easiest fix for when "weird errors" occur. I have had several issues in the past where I'd have a single corrupted track (which prevented me from opening the whole set), but by dragging each track (and saving after each successful time) I would be able to determine what was corrupted and still be able to revive my project with minimal strain in recreating.

yes I did create the set on a newer version, however that "newer version" (basically an update to Live 8) is still on my laptop, which is why I'm wondering - why won't it open, and if I DO in fact have to recreate all my midi mapping work how do I know that it won't do it in the future? :(

This is not a production project, I'm using ableton at the moment strictly for djing, do you have any suggestions on how I can get my set up (set) back, or would I have to recreate everything, and if I do - how do I know it won't give me that error in the future?

(big thanks for the response btw dude)

The only way is to open with the new version... The thing about updates with Live is that every install is its own independent program, which means the older versions are still there and are independent of each other as well.

This just means you have to be sure you are opening the latest, and double check the target of any shortcuts (mac or pc?) to be sure they are opening the new version instead of the old one.

Now if you want to have all the same things set up in the older version, then yes you definitely will need to recreate everything. 8)

THANK YOU :)

you were right, I opened up Live 8.0.4 from Programs on my computer, I had Live 8.0.0 on the desktop and I think that's what the sets were using to call themselves up into ableton, opened up 8.0.4, opened up the set and it worked. Thank you VERY MUCH again dude

i made a track on ableton lite seven,,and now i cannot even open it where i made it and also i cannot open it in live 8 full,,,this is very frustating as i spent a good ten hours or more on the project,,is there any way to overcome this problem,,i have checked to make sure it open in the right version but tells me it was made in a newer version,,however this can not be possible because my live lite 7.o6 is fully uo to date now to 7018 but same error occours,,,probably i will just have to leave it go and put up with my losses cus it seems i have tried all possibilities,,
