PLEASE HELP URGENT having a nightmare with NOT ENOUGH MEMORY

Post by Ret Svilenov » Thu Sep 10, 2009 10:46 pm

H everyone.

Hello

I have Live 8.0.4 weird message "THERE IS NOT ENOUGH MEMORY AVAILABLE, PLEASE SAVE YOU LIVE SET NOW AND QUIT" keeps popping up when I tried to download my 40 GB live set and I have my folders on external 2 TB hard drive. Something to do with the decoding cache folder - Live told me to change the folder for some weird reason. Had to clean the old one replaced it the new one. I have 1 TR left in my drive, the minimum cache size is set to 100MB. The maximum cache size is switched to OFF.

The other thing is that I have tried another project and is working fine the project is as well 40 GB but an old one set.

I would love to recover this project somehow. I have done lot's of work to it.

Tried erasing Preferences.cfg and Undo.cfg in hope to reload the set...still can't do it. What the hell happened.... everything was working fine 2 days a go? Hope I haven't lost this project.

Here is the log file I hope we can do something about it.

PLEASE HELP URGENT

Thanks Ret

I don't know what you mean by 'download my 40 GB set'. Download it from where?

I used to get that error a LOT, but getting a new machine with 4 gigs of memory stopped that from happening.

I am going to make the assumption that you have 2 gigs of RAM or less in your computer. If I am right, you need to stick more in there, and that error should go away. Live seems to be a 4 gigs of RAM or more program to even run. I had 3 gigs of RAM in my last machine, and Live 8 was unusable.

Go buy more RAM.

I had that problem for a couple of days. Made me very anxious. I've been monitoring my computer's RAM usage since and it has not come back (knock on wood).

My guess is that it occured by using OPEN RECENT SETS too much. I was going back and forth alot between my megaset and some other sets all night, never closing Live. It seems that shutting down and rebooting Live from Finder occasionally is helpful, but who knows for sure.

Just found out that the problem is with large Als. file and Ableton Live 8.

So here is the link to my Als. file that few days a go was fine and now I can't open it.
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/15a6jc

Other info
Mac Book Pro 2.33 Ghz Intel core Duo
MAC OSX 10.5.8
3GB Ram
Ableton Live 8.0.4
Als. file that cause the trouble is about 90MB. (Providing it was working fine 3 days a go)

Thanks

I have maximum RAM on main and is 3 GB.

But why is working fine and then one day not enough memory..... it's time to buy a new laptop AGAIN.

Well like I said, I had 3 gigs of RAM and got this error nearly EVERY time I used Live. 4 gigs, and the problem went away. I would HIGHLY recommend upping that to 4 gigs of RAM.

Does the set have any samples or clips set to run from RAM?
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

My problem went away when I deleted 7 of my 8 loopers. Oh that was anxiety inducing! Glad that's over.

A necro bumped thread indeed.

The fix is to reduce your sets. You most likely have too many clips in your set.

The OP's set that he posted here contains more than 2000 clips. Not a good idea. Live needs to store each clip's warp information, transient markers, etc. in the RAM. With so many clips (and especially if they reference relatively long audio files), you'll run into RAM problems sooner or later. Other things that may need much RAM are Loopers and heavy instrument racks as seen in Latin Percussion kit presets.

Hope this helps.
