Automatically inserting clips into Live

Post by tassock » Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:29 pm

Live's file browser leaves a lot to be desired for my dj uses. I need to sort tracks and samples by bpm, key, genre and tags, but all Live gives me is filename search. I can (and do) use an external program (Mixed In Key) to sort through tracks and samples, but I hate having to drag the clips into my Live set. I want to create a patch to sort clips in Live and load them into my set directly so that I can automate my workflow and ditch my mouse while performing. However, it seems there's no clip insertion functionality in Max for Live at this point. Anyone know if this is on Ableton's radar? Anyone else desire this functionality?

I just came across the live.drop object, which returns the filepath of a clip dragged from live's file browser or dragged directly dragged from the OS (i.e. Finder). While this isn't what I'm looking for, it seems to infer that there exists or will exist a means of using a filepath to load a clip into a track.
