It's hard to tell in advance, the quality is in certain events, there are no places that have a permanent quality level so you can go blind, if you do not know a particular event, then it's a total hit and miss.
and for picking events it's to early.
Keep that thread alive and ask max 10 days before you come again,
or drop a PM before, if i have time i am always happy to catch up with forumites.

@ TA, did you got the PM with the new details of Borowski?

Yep, I did thanks. Although we are meeting another friend out there and she's already arranged some accommodation, so I don't think I will need to ring your friends... you never know though :)

maria is ok, nothing special, but i am going to the net audio festival as well, because some friends are playing and some people who release my stuff will be there as well. so it's a bit of business.

on most weekends you can expect quality bookings @ berlins famous techno clubs - Watergate, Berghain/Panorama Bar, Arena , Maria , Tape & Horst Krzbrg etc.

The Bar25 is closed since a few weeks (this time its true, after thousands of closing partys ^^) and sadly Rechenzentrum closed last weekend aswell - really a shame cause it was a great location and had great partys.

You can check http://www.residentadvisor.net for upcomming events, its a useful site to keep track of the big bookings at the mentioned clubs

The more "undergroundish" partys are a bit harder to find if you dont know many locals who are really into the scene...

but as SubFunk allready said, its a bit early - still if you are looking for techno you wont be disapointed, believe me ^^

I have plans to visit berlin soon as well, actually been looking to move to berlin and work, preferably with music as well ;) I read the thread about the "uptight berlin" here, so I think I have to try it some more before I dare to move hehe :?

congratulations to your choice to visit this lovely town. theres no better one for techno - but be careful and dont go to the famous clubs like watergate or that crap, theyre all dead. just tourists and kids (of course if youre 19 aswell, u would enyjoy it :)). u need to know people of the scene to get to the real parties. and to all who plan to move here and get a job: if u arent academic, forget about it if u'd like to get more then 7.50 eur per hour. really. i know so many people from other countries went to this town for work, they are all pissed off.
nothin notable here.

+1

and if you come for 'making it with music' then be aware that you have to work as extremely hard like anywhere else (not like some friends who already have a ton of good tunes and still not even send one to a label, you know who you are if you read this! and living of H4 and keep on dreaming!), it is possible, but only if you do 'berlin sound' it's extremely narrow minded here in terms of music, which is a surprise, because people are otherwise rather open, but absolutely not when it comes to music. but obviously you can live here and make music and send it to hundreds and hundreds of labels based abroad!!! because it doesn't matter where you make tunes, it matters to send them a thousand times to labels all over the world and keep on pushing, pushing, pushing and pushing.

and yes, berlin is cheap to live in but incomes also suck, pretty bad, that is why i consider this town (my hometown) to be rather 'assozial' (german word for being low level social standard)

however, if any of you is coming for a visit, i am always up for meeting forumites and to try to show this town from the best side, so PM me if interested.

cheers

Some years ago I spent a couple of weeks in berlin and then I was at watergate 8O and watched richie hawtin and ricardo villalobos, actually that was quite nice, but maybe it has changed a lot?

I've been working as a development engineer for some time now, so regarding jobs it's in that area (software/hardware) I try to look (any ideas  ), but I would really like to work more on making tunes and sound design in movies.

this is not only existing in berlin but in other german towns as well.
the extremely narrow minded people are not the ones who listen but who drive and organize the events.
this point gave me a headache for a whole while and only this point is a bad internet-impression.
myself give a shit if one only like some berlin techno-minimal style.
it is outdated anyway.this style, whatever how good it is produced,is over 20 years old.
nothing special anymore.
much more the question, what drive people into a blocked mind.
good to know about some facts but i think it is a game.

however.
good quality comes through whatever it is.no chance to block it.

ive been here for a few weeks now, and i can confirm that there is a very narrowminded attitude to the music.
waaay too much dubstep. i like dubstep, but waay to much of anything is bad

Aah I'll keep waiting then...I checked the bookings for the clubs but they don't go further than 6 weeks in advance. I was actually anticipating watergate and panorama bar but I would love to visit some more undeground scenes so if anyone wants to become friends with me and give me some hidden away locations that would be great! I actually like the berlin sound but I listen to the dutch stuff more so I don't think 4 days of berlin would overload me :)
