Ambient Melodic Electronic Track

Post by joe.cavers » Wed Sep 30, 2009 11:44 am

Hey guys,

This is one of the first tracks I've ever uploaded to the net after a long time of just writing in my room for myself. I'm not too sure what I was trying to achieve with this track, but I know that I was fairly happy with it, except for the fact that it's a little less dynamic than I'd hoped.

Constructive criticism appreciated.

Cheers
Joe

P.S In regard to production, I think the mix could be a lot better but that is DEFINITELY not my strong point :(

Hi. I am an amateur so my comments are to be taken with a little bit of salt.

1. I don't know why, but the opening motif hurt my ears. I have head phones on and I had to quickly reach for the volume slider. I only had it maybe 2/3 any way. Decreasing volume didn't help much. So maybe something to do with the frequency?? of the sound. I wanted to correct it somehow. Not sure what it is.

2. At 1.23 a bell motif comes in and it clashes with the opening motif in a way that turns both sounds muddy, competing with each other.

3. At 1.55 the low organ comes in, sounds good, but I wanted one of the above noted motifs to back off in volume, or may disappear for a while.

4. Just a taste thing, I was waiting for a nice warm bass to drop into the mix

5. At about 5min, the bass drum hits could have something more to beef them up.

Very nice potential for me, the imagery that came to mind was walking through a city late on a clear night having the lights of the buildings and the stars kind of bounce off of each other, or blend at times, with a smile on my face while giving some thought to the beauty of the heavens.

Awesome.

Cheers. G.

Really liked it,

I think adding some breathy shoe-gaze type vocals would really give the track an extra dimension.

Personally I would make the track shorter, maybe cut the intro a bit.

Hey dude, that's some really sweet feedback, thanks for the help! Regarding the opposing motifs, I did wonder about that myself, but left them together. I think I'll do some re-edits and post it again.

Cheers!
