Guitar Rig 4 strangeness with Live
in GR3 i used to be able to configure plugin parameters to next sound and previous sound... so i could switch presets with a button on my midi controller...
in GR4 i can no longer switch these next sound/previous sound parameters... i can other controls, just not these ones...
i'm guessing it's a bug or something... probably NI end... but just wanting to confirm that i'm not the only one... anyone else wanna check this for me?

Yes, you can still do it. I'm responding for Ableton 8, but it will work in 7 as well.
The workaround is annoying, but it also shows you a standard way of working with the MFX plugin for GR4 in Live.
Set up a new live set. Put your GR4 plugin (must be MFX!) on an audio track. Make a new MIDI track which accepts all MIDI inputs, and set its input monitoring to IN. Set its OUT to the Audio track and the GR4 plugin on that track. If you haven't seen this before, welcome to the club
Now you can map to GR4 parameters directly, without the host (Live) intervening. So you click learn on GR4 and twiddle a knob or button on your MIDI controller.
Now you can map a button to PRESET PREV under options controller. If you "lock" it, it will NOT disappear when you switch presets.
Good luck!

Re: Guitar Rig 4 strangeness with Live
ok. this works when sending midi notes, but not with CC messages... and also not with the buttons on my microkontrol, because the midi from it's control section doesn't get sent to channels.
the other issue with this i noticed, is that GR4 MFX adds an extra 20% CPU hit!! which is freaking ridiculous.
anyone from Ableton want to comment on this? is it a bug, or has NI purposely taking away midi functionality?

I am having the same problem with GR4 and Live. I find a CC messages set up on the stand-alone version still works within Live, but only one. The second expression pedal on my FCB1010 does not work in plugin, but does in standalone. Plugin is not able to learn any CCs on the fly.

I realize this is an older post, but don't see the point in opening a new thread. I'm trying to follow your steps, and not getting anywhere. What do you mean by MFX? MIDI FX? As in, a plugin that takes MIDI input (as well as audio input, in this case)?
I've had no problems getting whatever MIDI signal I like into other plugins (a 13-instrument orchestra within Kontakt, for example), so I don't think it's a problem with the way I've got the tracks set up. To keep things simple, I'm working in a new Live set with only the tracks that you describe (as opposed to my much more complicated Live set which I'm using as, essentially, a rack of instruments to be controlled in my live keyboard rig), so there shouldn't be any other complicating factors. I can also see the MIDI indicator flashing for my MIDI track when I try to send MIDI data to Guitar Rig, but so far, it hasn't mattered whether I'm sending notes, CCs, or program changes; nothing's getting through to Guitar Rig, and Guitar Rig's MIDI Learn isn't picking up anything. On the other hand, I've gotten this to work today in another host (Cantabile), so it's either something in Guitar rig that is breaking in Live, or something in Live that I'm doing wrong. Cantabile will report the inputs and outputs a plugin uses when you mouseover it in its plugin chooser dialog, and Guitar Rig there is listed as MIDI IN/MIDI Out plus stereo in and stereo out, so I believe I *should* be using the correct version of the plugin (and there's only one VST installed anyway).
Is there anything else I might be missing?
The ideal goal is to use program changes directly (or, if I have to, treat an incoming CC as a program change message), but at this point, I'll settle for Guitar Rig picking up *any* MIDI input from within an audio track in Live.

Re: Guitar Rig 4 strangeness with Live
I recently purchased a FCB1010 to control Guitar Rig 4 VST from within Ableton 8.
I have no problems assigning CC's, expression pedals, and Midi Notes to map effect parameters and effect on/off functionality in GR4.
I AM having issues however with programming GR4 presets into my FCB1010. I understand how to pull up the Rig Kontrol board, unlock the RK Switch, assign a preset, and then lock again... I do not understand what i need to do to program specific presets to my FCB1010
i have read thru a hundred forums and still confused. I would be grateful for any help!
