kontakt and ableton problem

Post by Dubhole » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:22 am

Hi all,

I've got this really weird problem when firing up more then 2 instances of kontakt in Ableton. When I save my project and reopen it later on, it will not let me play my arrangement, only when I delete one of my inserted kontakt samplers it allows me to play. However I can undo deleting the kontakt sampler and have it back in my project again and it will play, but as soon as I save it and reopen it later , same problem. It seems like a really weird bug, and I don't know what side to blame or that both ableton and kontakt have something weird going on between them but i was wondering what this could be, and if somebody else has the same problem ?

cheers,

Why are you needing more than 1 instance of Kontakt? Are you not using Kontakt's own mixer and multi-outputs? This is vastly less CPU intensive than running multiple instances....let me know if you need to know how to set it up properly.

Just cheekily reviving this thread, as I'm trying to do exactly this at the moment (use multiple outputs of an instance of Kontakt 4 in Live 8).

I'm scratching my head at the moment, and failing to work out how this is supposed to work....

Any tips much appreciated.

It's a bit confusing. You basically have to add channels in the plugin first. The best way I eventually worked out how to do it was to add 8 stereo channels, click the Make Default button, then delete the plugin from the project, then add it back in again. Then, I could go through the newly-created channel, and assign them to plugin out pairs #1 and #2, #3 and #4 etc. using the Configuration button on each channel. Make this the default configuration by pressing the Make Default button again, and you're sorted, and your input configuration will be all setup next time you add a Kontakt instance to your project.

Then, you use the Ableton External Instrument patch on different MIDI channels to address MIDI to and receive audio back from different Kontakt instruments. Remember to assign MIDI channels and audio outputs to each Kontakt instrument. It works fine, once you get it setup.
