Trillian
Trillian
Who's got it and who's getting it? If you have it already, what are your initial thoughts?
Re: Trillian
Just got mine. It took a while to load on my PC. Sounds are uncomparable to Trilogy! I'm just scratching the surface. too early to comment in detail. if you are upgrading don't event think, just go get it.

How did I ever make decent bass sounds before getting a 34gb core library?

Lord only knows.nebulae wrote:How did I ever make decent bass sounds before getting a 34gb core library?
I use trilogy on literally ever track I make. Its absolutely essential in all my productions.
Re: Trillian
For $300 couldn't you just buy a real bass that sounds natural because it is real?
I'm not sure how this thing works but I can't imagine just a large sample collection is going to make a bass sound natural.

@ beats me
Yes.
Yes.
Re: Trillian
Thanks for confirming. I just think programming a bass line to sound natural by banging away on a keyboard and then editing parameters after the fact would be a pain in the ass, although I know some people work and think that way.H20nly wrote:@ beats me
Yes.
At the same time you could probably learn to play most bass lines on a real bass after about week from picking up the instrument for the first time, and it would probably be a lot more expressive. Seriously easy instrument to play in most scenarios.

for $300 I could buy several upright acoustic and electric bass guitars and immediately be able to translate my ability to play keyboard over to this new instrument then have said guitar professionally recorded using analog gear? In what universe??
as a laptop musician who uses lots of sample instruments like Trilogy/Trillion I run into this sort of commentary all the time. Some smart a$$ wondering "why don't you like get a real (instert instrument)" They all seem to miss the point....if I could a) afford and b)had the time to learn said instruments perhaps I would.

That may be the silliest thing you've ever said.beats me wrote:At the same time you could probably learn to play most bass lines on a real bass after about week from picking up the instrument for the first time, and it would probably be a lot more expressive. Re: Trillian
This statement assumes that everyone using Trilogy/Trillion are programing and quantizing their bass lines. I can't speak for everyone using the product but I rarely program note for note anything and I hardly ever quantize.beats me wrote:Thanks for confirming. I play/record my bass lines on my keyboard in real time. Am I supposed to believe that I can't be expressive on a keyboard?
What software like Trilogy/Trillion have done is expand the sound palette of the keyboard instrument...in the same way that electric pianos and synths did. Sample instruments give us (expressive) keyboard players access to many more sounds than previously possible.
Re: Trillian
I can't believe how bloated chat clients are getting these days. 34GB just to run all your favorite IM clients in one? Sounds a tad bit overkill.
