Monomulator and Ableton

Post by slaykent » Wed Oct 28, 2009 4:54 am

I have been using the wonderful Sevenuplive by using my APC40 as a monome through the monomulator by Mike @ trackteam audio for several months now. It's wonderful, however I find myself missing using the knobs and faders. In a video I saw today at synthtopia ( http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2009/ ... on-live-8/ ) someone seems to be using both the monomulator and the encoders while running ableton. Is there a mode switch that I'm missing or something? Can anyone shed some light on using the APC40 for both sevenuplive and normal midi mappings? Right now it seems I have to turn off the APC40 as a control surface to use the monomulator with ableton.

Hi,

I have another question. I just downloaded monomulator for my apc40 & Live 8.

I watched the tutorials but they don't reveal much about the routing inside Live (preference pane), session view etc., nor how Molar works in relation to Live.

So, if you have some experience then would you be interested to make a tutorial video?
Would be oz!

The other program you mention SevenUpLive, i don't know. What is it? Curious.
Cheers,

F

I'll try to post a video tonight after work. For Molar, what you should have to do is go into ableton, shut off the APC40 as a control surface, close ableton, start monomulator, and reopen ableton. If you put molar on a track as a VST, I assume your aPC40 will talk to it. :)

you should be able to use both APC as a control surface in Live as well as Molar in Live. The new version 1.0 takes care of this.

Check out how to setup Molar on the Monome forum. There's tons of Info there - quick start guides and tips and tricks- just do a search.
Keep in Mind the setup is the same with the monome emulator as it is with a Monome, you just need to put your OSC stuff in the monomulator app instead of Monomeserial.

Thanks Mike, I had no idea version 1.0 was out. This was exactly what I was looking for. The monomulator has been a really fun way to expand the use of my APC, so thanks again.

I'm having trouble getting monomulator to talk to molar 40h i had it working last night but my battery died and when I tried to use it again today
it's not working like it was and I have been messing with it for 6hrs trying to get it working again.
The other 3 settings for the apc's normal functions, the slider setting & the keyboard setting are working fine.
but if can someone post the exact midi input & output settings in ableton as the 3 help videos I have found leave it a bit of grey area in the midi section.
I think I have it mostly right but there's defiantly something missing.
Also in the molar vst video it says to turn the midi input on the track to no input is this the correct setting for use with the apc/ monomulator combo?

This is what I have been using so far as a reference.

I'm using osx 10.5.8, live 8.1b7, max runtime 5.1.0a1 (40387), MonomulatorAPC40_1.0 and molar 10b (released on April 24 2009)

I'm also having trouble setting up the APC like it's showed in the video.
Does anybody know if this works with live 8 only?
Because in this case that would be the problem here since I'm on Live 7...

So.. did someone figure out how to assign the faders in the slider-mode of the monomulator?
I see that it sends different midi-notes when in the grid- or the slider-mode, but how can I use this to control effects like he does on the video. he unfortunately does not show how to map the sliders.

I'm on Live 8 and I got Bomes..

I too want to know how to map the sliders as i play dubstep a lot and it would be helpful to alter the LFO Sync Rate like in the video.

Also, is holding WAV and a 3rd button from the right on each row the only way to record a loop into Molar from ableton? As i would like to be able to do this "on-the-fly" but i can only record to Molar by setting the output of the track i want to record to the Molar midi track, thus disabling any sound from that track, i have to pre-record the track first.

Ive tried getting around this using sends (send the audio to send C which is routed to Molar) but this means i cant disable the original audio track without stopping sound from Molar too, otherwise i have to have both the audio track AND Molar playing which is pretty annoying.
