input/output channel disappeared!

Post by jaygo » Wed Sep 22, 2004 6:09 pm

Now I have been toying around with ableton since it started out
and only recently have i been able to afford a 1ghz titanium powerbook, previous to which everything I needed worked jus' fine on my 600mhz ibook, slow and sluggish but working all the same. After loading up live on my new machine I dont see any input / output channel changers in either of the arranger or session chooser, they used to be above my send knobs and still are on my old ibook. what am I overlooking??? I have tried to install again, and no nothing!
I am still using live 2.04 and will upgrade soon but I think this is a different problem . . anyone got any suggestions?

Hi jaygo,

you run Live for the first time on your new powerbook and by default the "In/out" view is hided. You should make it visible from the view menu.
Menu: View-->In / Out.

Alex

I am having the same problem. It doesn't work under "view". The options are greyed out. Wtf?

Hi jugoe,

the I/O view is not visible in the arranger since Live 4. But a lot of user miss this and so it will come again within a later version of Live, but not with a bug fix update.

are you serious? routing my outputs is a vital part of how I use Live! Would I have to use the other window to route? What about routing MIDI i/o?

I am extremely disappointed.

you can route your inputs / outputs in the live preferences. ("appel & ,")
you can also use just mono outputs if you want to save cpu power.

i think this feature is now much better than in live 2 or 3 ( i used both and am very happy about the concept of the in and outs in live 4.)

do you need to change this settings during a liveact? i don´t think so...

i use motu 828mk2 and use between 6 and 8 outputs, mixing them together in a mackie mixer...
this sounds much better than to do stereo mix in live, especially if you play live in differnet spaces, you can easily adjust f.e. the kick or bass sound with your hardware mixer to sound good in maybe also difficult spaces...
so i use different outsputs for:
kick (mono)
bass (mono)
hihat (stereo)
snare (stereo)
melodies and special sounds (stereo)

hope this helped.
