How are you using the MPD32 to launch clips?

Post by parke02 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:44 pm

Until Ableton creates a "APC 40 mode" for the MPD32, how are all of you launching clips with the MPD32?

The only solutions I can think of are to midi map as many clips as you can, but you're limited to the 12 banks and can't scroll for access to more than 8 x 24 clips, or the nativeapps solution where you have acccess to a single row of clips and have to scroll up/down.

Anybody seen Nosaj Thing perform live? He seems to use the MPD32 rather well to launch clips as well as for live drums. I imagine his live sets contain more than 8 channels of 24 clips. I wonder how he has his MPD setup.

Maybe I just buy a Launchpad... but I'd hate to have to move my midi keyboard off my desk.

i'm not sure about mpd32 but my mpd18 has:
- 16 presets (with 3 banks) that gives 48 virtual buttons
- times 16 midi channels gives you 768 posibilities

enough to control drums and few other instruments on separate channels
and lot of clips
and lot of switching presets/bank/channels :)

i use different presets and different styles depending on the song i am performing

i have scene up, down and launch assigned to the transport buttons
i then use the pads to either trigger specific clips or track launch.

you could easily set up a navigation preset on the mpd32 by assigning the pads or buttons to track launch then use the transport buttons for scene up, down and launch.

i have also used bomes to mod the functions but in the end i opted not to use bomes for simplicity sake

you could also get this to help.. i don't have it nor do i plan to get it but it looks cool

i didn't sell my mpd24 when i got my mpd32 so i use the mpd24 as an instrument controller and i use the mpd32 as an ableton controller.

i have an mpd32 as a mixer controller and i've had the launchpad for a few hours now. the pads on my mpd32 are best used for this kind of thing...

there are just not enough pads to bother to use it as a quasi launchpad imho.

the alternative is to load the samples into a drum rack or sampler; but, this is not tempo friendly.

Hi, I just posted a topic on mapping the MPD 32 pads to clips in Ableton. I'm able to map the faders, buttons, and knobs on the MPD fine, but for some reason, when I assign the pads to clips and launch them, my CPU is overloaded and Ableton freezes for a few seconds.

I don't know why it's so glitchy when the faders, buttons and knobs work fine. I set my MPD midi clock to external. Could it be something to do with the pad configuration on the MPD?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
