waves new vocal rider plugin (help pls)

Anybody tried yet? Seems quite cool. The problem is, sidechaining the music mix bus as reference for the vocal signal doesn´t seem to work with the non existing sidechain functions in live. Do i miss somethinng? Any ideas?

I don't understand "sidechaining the music mix bus as reference for the vocal signal"...
as for sidechaining non-live device...
you can route the output of a channel in live to the channel the waves plug is on...
then choose the appropriate input of the vst in the drop down beneath that...
and you can do all the stuff like "any other DAW" ... you just need to rtfm..

i`ve contacted waves support. they told me the "music S/C" is not supported in live ... a lot of other daws are also not supported.

the daws of the future like live, studio one & co. don´t get their support ... therefore dinosaur daws ... it`s a shame!

Hmm, interesting concept. Is this a new version of the vst plugin standard that has a Music S/C input or something? Not exactly sure how this plugin works....I guess it's somehow getting a mix of everything BUT the track you have the plugin on? If the plugin had a simple 'sidechain' style input you could just route the master into the plugin and use phase inversion trickery to remove the channel you have the plug on.

Can you send the output of an audio track to the plugin?

i can't imagine how it'll work as a one shot. Surely you're going to have to go back and re-adjust the auto rider rides.

it works great on many sources. it´s useful without the music s/c. but that´s only half it´s potential.

I was trying this out last night. I can get it to sort of work, but I can't get it to write the automation...which kind of defeats the point.

Anyway, what I did was:

1. Create two new audio tracks. Set one as the buss for 'music', one as the buss for 'vox'.

2. Send all the non-vox tracks to the new 'music' buss. Send your lead vocal to the new 'vox' buss.

3. Put Vocal Rider on the new vox buss. Send output to Master.

4. In the 'music' buss, send output to the 'vox' buss and select side-chain to Vocal Rider. Set VR plug to 'Write".

You should now see Vocal Rider doing its thing as it records a new copy of the lead vocal. It doesn't record the automation though.

The way I assumed it would work is that you should only need to create a 'music' buss, and feed that to your VR via side-chain on your existing vocal track...but then you have no option to record automation on this track in Live.

See if you can take it any further - and lemme know if you find a workround. I 'm on Live 6 btw - so I assumed Live 8 may be more advanced in its capabilities.

the regular way, recording automation works great. but the gui have to be opened. i don´t understand, why they don´t integrate a sidechain button directly into the gui of the vr. the whole power of this plugin would reach us all.

i emailed waves, if there are any plans for the future to redesign the plugin to open "music s/c" function for all kind of daws - the support answered: "I do not have any information regarding any plans for the future." i hope, someone jumps up on the train and creates a plugin like this, compatible to all relevant daws.
