Dual footswitches, one down and go

For playing live I use a guitar and bass while using Ableton. In theory it seems I can use two footswitches, one to drop to the next scene and the other to activate it. Foot switch one does fine to drop to the next scene but foot switch two can't seem to make it play. Am I doing something wrong or if foot switch two simply not working (it a Boss designed for guitar pedals, maybe the problem).

Have you confirmed that switch two works for other types of operations?

It would be helpful to know if it is either how it is assigned, or how the switch itself is working.
