latency issues

I recently purchased a Yamaha MO8 and am now running a usb line directly from the back of my MO8 into my laptop(laptop is a new toshiba with intel celeron processor and 4 gb memory running windows vista 32 bit) I am currently running Ableton 7 since the EIC works with that version. When I am inputting MIDI the response seems slow. I bumped up the sample rate as far as I could and the latency got better meaning faster.I would guess under normal circumstances the response and playback should be very similar to a real piano and not a delayed piano. Does anyone have any suggestions or remedies to solve the sluggishness? I am financially invested into the product and so far am kind of dissatisfied with the time I am spending trying to make it work properly. I should be spending my time recording and making music since that is why I bought the program to start with. J

Go and download ASIO4ALL and utilize this instead of your on-board sound card. It is absolutely free and will get the latency down so low that the response time between your midi input and playback will be practically the same as if you were playing any standard hardware synth or piano. Or go and purchase yourself an external soundcard from a respected manufacturer and get even better response time and sound.
